For several months now 3 orange warning dash lights come on and cycle off and on without affecting anything. Also, a red brake light comes on frequently (with the three orange lights) and both the tach and speedometer go to zero. When the red light goes out, both meters work properly. The red light may be on for just a few seconds or for as long as about 20 minutes. Vehicle performance is not affected. If I shut the engine off, and start it again, usually there is no red brake light and both meters work. The Jeep has 365,000 km and works like new. I wonder if anyone else has had this strange behavior.

Intermittent problems with the dash instrument cluster are often caused by a bad ground connection under the dash. Some folks have found loose screws near the edges of the cluster board. Bit of a PITA I understand to get at the cluster behind the plastic. My 2003 KJ had a problem with the speedo reading way high on occasion. Went away if turned key off and back on. Poor install of a disabler / GPS gadget had a "ground" connection with a small screw that worked loose easily. Fixed it with a wire run to the ground plate behind the driver side kick panel. Another KJ owner that I told about this was having problems too. He checked and that ground plate wasn't even bolted to the body? There are more than one ground connections under there too. What ya get with so much plastic in there. Sorry I can't be more specific. At least adding ground wires to metal under the dash shouldn't hurt if the metal isn't 12 V hot.
