i just bought a 2006 liberty. when i accelerate my rpm's go up to about 2 1/2 grand and it shifts, but once it shifts my rpm's drop down really fast to about 1 1/2 and it seems like it just wont go anywhere, then it eventually gets back up to speed. it does it when im driving on flat roads and going up hills. theres also a slight vibrating noise coming from somewhere when it goes to shift. it sounds like im going over rumble strips just not as loud. not sure if thats the whole problem or 2 seperate problems. any ideas of what to look for?

Sounds normal to me. Its programmed to upshift very soon to help with mpg. The noise you hear is probably the engine being lugged. If you give it alittle more gas starting out itll hold the gears longer.

I agree with this.

Your TCM is automatically programmed to shift in accordance with the way you drive. If you're heavy on the foot normally, it will hold gears longer. If not, it will drop em. What it sounds like you're experiencing is the OD to Torque Converter lockup. That happens in mine too. I'll be accelerating and hit 3rd gear, be at about 2200-2500 RPMs, then it switches into O/D and quickly locks the torque converter, which drops RPMs down to about 1600 or so. It'll unlock the torque converter again at about 45mph, usually.

Ok thanks guys. I just wasn't sure if it was something I had to get fixed. It's my first jeep. I'm used to trucks so its a lot different feeling.
