I have one which is similar, if not identical. I'd advise removing it regularly and keeping it oiled or vaselined. (That's what she said...) I went through a car wash last month and had to unscrew the base because it had rusted up on me. Soaking it in penetrating oil freed it up and it still works fine, but re-lubing is now on my list of regular maintenance.
