As the title states. I found a list once, but no matter how hard I try after 2 hours searching today, I cannot find it again. Does anyone know of this list?

Im interested in getting a KJ. Im going to put a mild lift on it and some good tires and its going to be used mosty just on FSRs as far as off roading goes.

Im trying to pick the best MY for this purpose. I will be getting a manual transmission.

I know the 03 got all wheel disk breaks.

The 05 gets a 6 speed manual

and 06+ gets ESP which im not really interested in.

so are there any big differences to consider between the 03-05 KJ's besides the 6 speed manual upgrade?

Mid year 05 is when the ESP was added, from what I recall.

There were also some electrical changes, the tire pressure monitoring system became more advanced in 05 and no longer required individual reprogramming using magnets.

05 the 3.7 compression ratio went up a bit, makes 215 HP. Early 03 the 42RLE ****** replaced the 45RFE. 02 and 03 gas tanks were 18.5, 04 was 19.5 and 05+ 20.5. Most 02s (made before April 14th of 02) ride 3/4" higher. 05+ are facelifted inside and out obviously.

Can anyone else chime in on when the ESP was introduced instead of the posi rear end? I'm pretty sure I've read it was an 06+ feature.

I think I've decided I want to find an 05 so I need to know if I have to watch one for ones with traction control.

Thanks for the answers so far!

My 05 doesn't have ESP or TC either. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it was a mid-year thing, but I could be wrong.

I do not know if Posi was available on the 05, mine doesn't have it. :(

'05 is best year! :)

Posi was an option until esp was introduced. No need for posi after that because esp will brake the wheel that is slipping to get the other wheel to turn.

I'm gonna keep searching for an 05.
