I added some lights to the front of the Jeep...

The frot 4 lamps are only 55 watts per lamp.
I'm also changing over to a Rennagade "Brain" and alternator...
Add to that two additional Optima blue/yellow top extra batteries
going up in the roof top Thule box, I think I'll be ok.

I'm also in the process of buying a canoe and adding a good
trolling motor (In addition to my 4.5 hp Mccullough o/b motor.)

Oh, i thought you said 100w per...

Still... 55w x 4 at 13.8v (just an average battery voltage number used) = 16 amps

I run four 55w lights myself. Double that for another four on the roof as you plan and thats 32amps.

132amps stock alternator, 160amps for Rene alternator... 128 amps left to run everything else. Should be ok. I don't have the exact numbers as to what the vehicles systems require for current in a stock config with all the lights and such on, but i would bet its a large portion of the alternator output if they upgrade the alternator on the Rene just to support four more lights on the roof. The Rene lightbar is four 55w units, so 16 amps, yet they upgraded the alternator by 28 amps to give a little overhead i suppose.

Extra batteries on the roof? Yikes... The center of gravity is high enough without adding all that weight up top. Not to mention all the other hazards of having one up there, wiring considerations, etc.

You also need to consider the larger demand on the alternator to charge all those batteries as well.

I'm not ******* in your pool, just thinking out loud! :D

Just another thought.... Anyway a second alternator could be added? I'm sure nobody makes a bracket for it, but its just a thought.

I used to know a guy with a Blazer that had a second alternator added. Then you could have the second alternator charging your extra batteries and all your added accessories and added lighting running off that alternator and batteries.

Sure would be a nice system that way.

If you do manage to add another alternator, crazy or not, pictures and info!

I have often pondered that, not for lighting, but to add one of those 1500w 120v generators that come in about the size of a regular alternator. Man would that be handy out in the boonies for running an air compressor, power tools, etc. It's only 12.5 Amps at 120v, but still enough to run some stuff that would be handy having without the need for more batteries and an inverter.

Ok, 4 x 100w on the roof, 4 x 55w on the front, 620w / 13.8v = 44.92 Amps.. If you have the stock lights on as well another couple hundred watts..

Wow! Should be darn bright in the backwoods!! Make sure to holler out on the radio first Ryan so you don't burn my eyeballs out... LOL

New they are over 300, this one is top of the line, can rotate 370 degrees , moves up and down etc all from the remote control. You can stand 100 foot away and control it. Fun to use when you click it on and people see there is no one around the Jeep.
I picked it up for another guy who wanted one then he backed out
so first 150 plus shipping gets it. I had it on mine for a day, but was one inch too high to get in my garage

Hey Ryan09, with that many lights on your Libby we can see you from here on the East coast =D>

Seriously, you're going to need a second battery or a much bigger alternator to power those beauties. Hmmm...maybe a second alternator  Do you do a lot of offroading at night to justify that many?

(lol)

Maybe it can rotate a full cycle plus an additional 10 degrees before the wires get fouled up and you need to bring it back to center. That thing is sweet.

Tom, how does it mount?
