Hey, I'm soon going to install HID fogs on my renegade to match my headlights, just don't know where to put the ballasts or how I'm going to get behind the fog light housing. Any help would be appreciated.
And please don't respond by telling me their illegal, blah blah... I live in NYC and everyone and their mother converts to HIDs... (and I'm a cop.)

Thanks

I would never say I was a cop and doing something illegal
would never admit to it
Plus if everyone jumped off the bridge would you do it also
Its illegal and BLINDS THE H out of everyone else

OK so you specifically asked everyone NOT to respond with any sort of illegal crap.

Since they ignored that, I will.

I wouldn't do it. Why?

One reason, and one reason only... while HIDs in the HEADLIGHTS do provide a bit of increased visibility (despite what everyone else says, I'm sorry, I miss my HIDs), HIDs in the fogs just annoy the crap out of others on the road, and do nothing to HELP visibility. A fog lamp's only purpose is to help increase visibility to the road (and lane markers) directly in front of the Jeep. If you put HIDs in a fog lamp, you seriously WILL be blinding everyone else on the road and annoying yourself too.

I'd pass. Been there, done that, never will do it again.

.... with that said, I only wish I could find a QUALITY HID kit that doesn't do......

Well...
You are a cop, use your investigational skills and then you'll know how to get access to the fog lamps!:D

In all seriousness, there is a little hinged plastic door on the inner plastic fender liner at the front of the wheel well.
Pop it open and you gain access to the fog lamps.
As far as where to place the ballasts?
I'd place them up high so that they are out of the elements.
If I were you and wanted HID fog lamps, I would use some of these:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=270867988038&index=2&nav=SEARCH&nid=80281939989
(These are just an example. But you can buy the exact same looking units that work with HID lamp capsules. That way the light actually projects properly onto the roadway instead of blinding oncoming traffic!)
HID lamp capsules don't work worth a shit in light reflectors designed for halogen bulbs.
That's just how it is.
Regardless of wether or not the law enforcement agency you work for enforces that law or not, it is a bloody nuisance to have those lights coming towards you or if some inconsiderate A$$HOLE is behind you with those inappropriate HID lamps shinning up your read!
But at the end of the day it's your choice.
But hey, you're a cop so you are use to being a F$&@King A$$HOLE to other people so what's the difference Eh?

I wish police would enforce this more it's a damn safety hazard here in Vegas every Jo blow has a lifted F250 Grocery getter and mall cruiser that has HID's and shines right throw your back window Can't see crap almost caused me to get into multiple accidents, but luckily being overly cautious avoided it.

Appreciate the responses guys...
I just want to know the best way to get behind the fog light housings to install the ballasts...
-Do I have to take the bumper off?
-Is there a way to get behind the wheel liners? (Besides the small opening to change the halogen fog bulb)
I already purchased the kit... I wish I had the cash to spend on retrofit projectors. I really do...
I didn't mean to start a discussion on ethics.

The only way to get into that area is to fully remove the front bumper.
Mounting the ballasts up higher is a better idea though as they will get more
air flow when the vehicle is moving and they will stay cooler.
Not to mention that if you do need to go through bumper high water (for whatever reasons, ie. offroad, flooded roadways, etc.)
you won't fry the ballasts.

Your best bet is that little trap door. If you want more space, the bumper probably has to come off.
