I have an 03 limited. When I put it in four wheel part time the drivers side front squeaks when i hit the gas like squeaks to the point that i am scared to put it in four wheel. I think it may be the hub and i am replacing that cuz i know its bad but could that be it? Also when i put it in Full time It feels like a tank like with tracks and vibrates and the squeaking gets worse. Also I have trouble getting it in and out of four wheel drive i have to take it out then back up and then go forward sometimes a couple times before it comes out. there is like 130000 some ot miles on it so i expect issues but could someone give me some insight on what this would be?

When you say it squeaks does it sound like a spinning shaft that is not lubricated, like 90% continual squeal, 10% pulsating squeal?

How loud is it, like
A) I can hear it if I listen
B) It is noticable all the time
C) I can turn up the radio to 10 and not notice it
D) Holy crap its going to blow!

How do i know if its the cv shaft. I know on the car if it clacks around a corner its bad but on a jeep i have no idea. i am very mechanically inclined but not to good with four wheel peel issues.

well ask tjkj just pm him and he will know more then me but i would just pull the tire off and then take off the shaft and check it and all the bearings and all that good stuff bc its better to be safe then sorry.....but the reason i asked if it did it when you came the a slow was bc when i had my 02 ranger it sounded like a **** dog was under the wheel and it was the bearing/tracer or however its spelled lol(its 12 so kinda sleepy)but anyways we fixed that and it stopped and now my dad was a 01 f150 4wd and its doing the samething so we going to take it apart and check the cv shaft and all that..but ya just pm tjkj

thanks man. i am gonna change the bearing, but is the vibration normal, cuz when i put it in 4full time it feels like i am in a tank going. and kind of held back like when you put it in low gear

Front driveshaft is a likely culprit. Grab the rear joint on the driveshaft and feel for play. If it's as bad as you're describing, it will have quite a bit of play.

If it has play, then remove the driveshaft, and take it for a test spin and report your findings.

Look at the rear of the front driveshaft to see if the rubber boot is still there, if not more than likely thats it, but also pull it out like TBJ stated and drive it.
If its still doing it go for the CVs , checking boots etc

it only does it in 4 wheel. if i dont have engaged then nothing, and i dont use four wheel unless i absolutely have to. i grew up in the adirondocks and pretty much learned to drive in ****** conditions. but my tires suck and until i get the new ones i have to use it in the snow sometimes. but i will try that it just ***** i can run it in part time and not the tank rumble strip feel, but soon as i put it in full time i get thank rumble strip feel. and i hate that shit. thanks guys.

Hmm... Since the front driveshaft spins regardless of whether or not your actually in 4wd could it be something wrong with the transfer case??

But i would check everything first... It could just be that its more noticeable in 4wd because your applying power to the front driveshaft rather than letting it freely spin in 2wd.

When was the last time the t-case fluid was changed? And yeah, if you have selec-trac you need to use it often to keep it in good working order. Like every month you should find a suitable slippery surface and drive around in all 3 4wd modes.
