Alrighty guys, I've been around before but completely forgot my username and password. Total lost, with that said, I've done multiple searches and been to multiple shops with far too many possibilities for my problem.

My wife has an 02 Liberty 4x4 with 174k miles. It had the 45rfe auto ****** and we have been having problems with it. It started coming back from Louisiana a few months ago. I10 traveling at 70, we slowed down to about 45 then BAM! It shudders, ****** and went limp, it wouldn't shift out of 2nd. Pulled over, killed and let it sit. After starting it by the starter fuse, it wouldn't shift out of 2nd because it was stuck, I assume in limp mode. Dodge did their thing replacing the shift cable and replacing the transfer case mounts and linkage, so they say. Flash forward to 2 months later, same thing happened. Though this time it drives normal from 1st, shift into 2nd and it clunks, jerks and grinds. Dodge said the ****** had to be replaced, but they've been known to screw people over around town. It's been going on for years. I don't want to replace the ****** just for to be something else.

I've heard it's the hydraulic shaft, the shift solenoid, the computer, the linkage, the transfer case, the transmission lines. I'm sure a few others but I can't think of them.

My question is, has anyone else had this problem, and what done to fix it?
