when i have 4x4 engaged i am getting a clunking noise, it happens in both 4 high and 4 lo. Its not a consistent noise and doesnt happen in 2 wheel drive. i have some play in the front drive line (it will wiggle back and forth), the boot covering the bearings on the rear side of the drive line is torn does it seem reasonable i may have taken out those bearings (maybe got a rock or something) or is there something else i should look at.
im trying to get other opinions before i start taking it apart
thanks, chris

If the boot on the front driveshaft is torn very good chance of contamination. Have you checked fluid levels of transfer case? front diff? The CV joints on front drive shaft are realitivly easy to replace.

I'd suggest pulling the driveshaft down and replacing the transfer case CV end. There's a kit you can buy for about $80 or so, and it's not too hard to replace.
