so im new to this forum and new to jeeps in general seeing as how this is my first one seeing as how my family has been strictly chevy up until this jeep but i love it. OK so a little about my jeep, my dad got it froma used car dealership bout 3 years ago and it has never really given us a singel problem best car we have ever had. Seeing as how i blew the motor up in my old camaro my dad gave me his old liberty and got him a new car. so ive been driving it around and just got the oil changed since my dad let it get about 1k over due and since i had the oil change ive been hearing a tap coming from the engine. it only is there when im accelerating, i have put the jeep in park and nuetral reved the engine and nothing its only there when its in drive going down the road. all imput would be very much apreciated  almost forgot its a 2003 liberty limited edition with a 3.7 v6 and about 140k give er take

Welcome!

Are you sure it's in the engine or could it be something else? I'd say check the t-case side cv joint on the front driveshaft first. (I'm losing track of how many times I've said that)

1) Welcome
2) Did you hear it before the oil change ?
3) does it change with road speed
4) does it change if in overdrive or with it off

ok sorry forgot to say its 2wd and it does go away at highway speeds it only really comes up if and when i accelerate to get up to highway speed like when im getting on the interstate and yes it was there before the oil change but it was much louder since the oil change it has softened up alot and as for with the over drive on or off i really dont know never even tried it but as far as i know it could be the engine but i really cant clarify if it is ive been reading up on it and it could also be the flex plate or torque converter from what ive seen

Do you have kids? What you can do is strap your kid underneath the Jeep (this works best if you are lifted). I would recommend using some good quality straps for this becasue safety should be your first priority when involving kids in to the work. After you get the kid strapped in to the bottom of the jeep, drive it around the block a few times. Maybe hit the interstate to get some good speed. When you are done you should be able to ask your kid to tell you where he was hearing the sound come from.

Walkie Talkies work great to communicate with your kid while he is under there, no need to stop and check that way:shrug::happy175:

Do you have a daughter? Nothing can scream like a little girl. I know if I had tried that when mine was young enough to fit under there I would have been able to hear her.

I assume its the dana 30A bushing as its the only thing i haven't changed.

honestly we have done nothing with the jeep since we got it it has really been the best vehicle we have ever had. it really changed my opinion on what type of vehicle i want but anyway im going to look at those joints one thing that has been bothering me that i have not seen on any other liberty around town is the fact that my headlights are fogging up from the top and its slowing working its way down my entire light i know its just from where the plastic gets old just thought it was kinda odd its just started at the top any solutions to how to fix it

The best solution for headlights is new housings... buttt those are kinda pricey! So the next I can suggest is take the grill off (really easy) and get one of those 3m wetsand kits for headlight restoration. It isn't a permanent fix but worked great for me.
