Last weekend I hauled a 22' travel trailer for about an hour with OD off. The transmission overtemp indicator didn't come on and the dash's water temp gauge stayed dead center. My Scangauge told me my water temp was moving between 95 and 105 C (203 and 221 F).

Since the engine & transmission are tied together, so to speak, can I assume the transmission temperature to be near the water temperature?

Not really since they do not share a common cooling source(AKA radiator).Your trans temp was all over the place since it has a stand alone cooler only which can not handle temp spikes very well.

Even with a in-radiator trans cooler the trans temps are well below what the engine temps are due to the in-radiator cooler being in the cooler side of the radiator which is some 20-30 degrees cooler then what the engine temp is.

What does something like that weigh?

You must be registered for see images attach

I've never had my trailer weighed at a scale station but the specs for it state the Gross Dry Weight as 4,1010 lbs. When I hauled it it was practically empty, no vacation luggage. I'm going to use it as a cottage in a nearby town.

The GVWR for the trailer is 5,900 lbs which I assume means the maximum capacity that it can carry (GDW + vacation luggage).

The towing capacity of my gas powered 3.7L Liberty is 5,000 lbs so as long as I don't load up the trailer I can still pull it. The only problem is finding extended mirrors to let me see the traffic behind me. By the way I do have the factory trailer package c/w ****** cooler, Class III trailer hitch and a load leveling hitch.

Thats a nice trailer, and its really nice to see that you made an attempt to put extra mirrors on it. Here in Ontario, there are too many doughheads that drive up the highway with a Ford Ranger or Jeep TJ and tow behind them a Double Wide Skidoo trailer and they cannot see crap behind them. With your trailer, the only area of concern to me would be the frontage of the trailer, thats alot of wind hitting it.

Actually with a double jet ski trailer, you can see perfectly behind you from both the side mirrors as well as the rearview mirror even in the KJ granted they sit wide but they do not have much actual obstruction to them ;)
Although there are plenty of people out there that do not know how to drive while towing a trailer :)
With a camper your concern is you lose your rearview completly causing you to rely solely on your side mirrors and since it sits as wide as the KJ (maybe even wider) your view is obstructed from a foot off the ground to about 8 ft off the ground.

Sorry, I should have been more precise, your right off course about the jet ski, trailers, I was referring to the Double wide Skidoo Trailers that are fully enclosed as well as trailers that the chap from the East Coast was using. Thanks for the corrector cheers

Oops sorry I was reading that and thinking Sea-Doo not Ski-Doo, I just realized your in Canada and you probably have a lot more snowmobiles then jet skis :D
But you are right with those enclosed trailers, they can be a PIA without those mirrors, especially on something that small like a YJ TJ or Ranger..

Being by the lake its always funny to watch some people try to back in a boat or jet ski trailer into the water! Its very easy to tell the good drivers from the bad (or maybe just inexperienced) :D

NO you were right, I think way I wrote that was you were off course with it, but I really meant you were right in what you were saying, We have a ton of Jetskis as well, but they don't seem to enclose them. If I can figure out a way to post one, I have a photo I took last year of a VW TDI towing an enclosed trailer and you would have to be two miles behind to see the angle of the mirrors. Scarry thought. Cheers

Okay I'll add to your comments;

I agree that all too often I see a TJ/JK coming down the highway with a double axle travel trailer behind it that looks as big as the Jeep. Here in NB the Department of Highways, the same people who police the truck drivers, can pull you over if they think your trailer setup is unsafe. And I imagine if you don't have proper mirrors you could get pulled over too.

My Liberty owner's manual does state that the trailer can't have a frontal area greater than 64 square ft and a length over 25 ft. That would be a pretty big trailer. I haven't yet measured my trailer's frontal area, maybe I should. Maybe I should get one of those wireless backup cameras...hmmmm.

If you're thinking about the wireless backup camera for the back of the trailer, I tried it with one model - I don't remember the exact name (Canadian Tire, about $100 on sale if I recall), on the back of my 19' travel trailer.

The distance was too much and the "reception" sucked on the monitor - all staticky. The aluminum siding of the trailer may have also been blocking the signal, I am not sure but it worked fine at the back of the Jeep.

I didn't bother trying to see if I could make it work by extending the antenna or something like that. Just thought I'd mention it!

As for mirrors I have tried a couple of types, the single-strap, kinda small mirror in plastic housing type I don't like, the double-rubber-strap type as shown in the OP's pic are OK... I've heard good things about "McKesh" mirrors, I will probably try a set of those one of these days. Pricey, but apparently worth it.
