Noticed recently the KJ has been making a subtle clunk when the front passenger wheel drops- i.e. a rut in the road, a driveway curb, pot holes, etc, just any time that wheel drops (as opposed to going up and over). It also gets a bit louder going 70-75 mph over rougher pavement (like where the road is pitted out).It sounds like the clunk I had when my upper ball joints where bad, but those have been replaced with JBAs and I checked the lower ball joint on that side and couldn't find any play. Even tried using a 2x4 and a 2' long crow bar for leverage. I also checked the tightness of the sway bar bushing mounts, the end links and couldn't find anything loose. Driveability wise it's great, no wandering, no pulling, let go of the wheel and it just goes straight and the tires are wearing normal.

A bit of a run on I know, but any thoughts? Thanks!

I actually did check the upper shock bolts (the 4 under the air box, right?) and they were tight as per the 80ft-lbs in the FSM.

Thanks though!

I've been chasing one for about a year and a half. New CV axle goes in someday soon. will let you know if it changes.

Wasn't intermediate shaft, "strut" mounts, sway bar links or lbj.

Oh...how do you check that?

Not saying it's not a CV...but 4WD doesn't change it.

Had to take the shock and spring assembly off to Check it. I worried that if the bolt had come all the way off it would have been loaded when I popped the ball joint.

I had the same issue with a new Ironman shock a few months back, it turned out to be a bad strut rebound valve.
