Sorry for the dbl msg...it's snowing and the internet flaked out.

I should also add that our Rig has four cross bars fitted.
Three on the factory roof rails and one bolted directly to the roofs sheet metal.
That way the loads are spread out over a greater area.

Hey Ry, is the headliner any closer when you load up? :icon_mrgreen:

It turns out it's a self-tapping screw.

I left the front as is and chopped a little off the back to even them up. I put a little spraypaint on the cut end and then drilled a small pilot hole for the screw at 1/4" back from the end.

Here is what they look like evened up with 2 5/8" of overhang. I also adjusted the spacing so that both bars are over the factory holes in the top of the roof rails:

As far as security for these crossbars goes, the best idea I could come up with is to replace the thumbscrews with allen bolts, and then turn the attachment assemblies around to put the bolts on the inside.

I got these 8mm stainless steel bolts at the hardware store:

I then took out all four thumbscrews and replaced them with these bolts.

Then I slid the latch assemblies completely off the bars, turned them around backwards, and slid them back on.

It's not the greatest deterrent, but hopefully the allen bolt combined with the awkward angle it takes to unbolt them will make it a little less of a target. Plus the allen bolts resemble locks, at least from a distance.
