In the conection between the catalytic converter and tailpipe assembly is there some sort of gasket or donut that goes there and what is it called? I disconnected this joint in order to fit on my magnaflow muffler but it's making a terrible racket and it seems to be coming from this area.

The flange on the muffler side is tapered in, and on the cat side it's cone shaped. That creates the seal with no gasket or donut. At least, not on the 2002 (my year). Maybe a chunk of rust got in between and it's not fully seated.

That's how my '05 is, as well. Worth noting, my husband swore he tightened it down while I was doing other things after my ****** swap....but I had to tighten it down 3 days later. Bolting that flange back up requires a little wiggling to make sure it's seated, then tightening down around and around.
