So we all know by now (I think) about the merging of Chrysler and Mersidese..sorry Im a horrible speller...and there have been a few combined projects with the two motor companies..one I have heard was the Crossfire..
but some people including the FORD stealership that sold us our Jeep said we have (07 3.7 JEEP LIB) a Mersadese engine in it? that its another combined effort of the 2 companies? Ever heard this? and can you tell me if its true or not..myself I think it isnt..esp when I am reading that the 3.7 is the exact make up of the ram/durango 4.7 only 1 liter smaller...let me know what u think..
Is our KJ,s hybrid with german engineneering?(band)

This basic design was around at Chrysler long before the idea of merging with Daimler came up. Now if they would just redesign the 3.7 the way they did the 4.7 (4.7 now makes over 300hp, which at a ratio of hp/liter would make a 3.7 about 240hp minimum and since the 3.7 has a longer stroke, it would probably be more than that).

However. i woldnt be surprised if the new design is a Mercedes inspired one.
Not so much Mercedes inspired I think as Mercedes spurred (pushing to make it more efficient). As I recall, I don't think M-B used anything Chrysler, but they forced a whole bunch of parts onto Mopar platforms (especially the LX cars).

Mercedes Benz was owned by Daimler-Benz. DB bought Chrsyler and became Daimler Chrysler and still built Mercedes Benz's ( and some others, just as GM has more than one nameplate.)

The 4.7 V8 was in the works when Chrysler owned Jeep, before the Daimler take-over. The 3.7 is a natural off-shoot of the 4.7 as American engine makers have long removed two middle cylinders from a V8 design to create a V6 block. Buick did it with the 340 to create the 225 ( later the 231 )...Chevy did it to the 5.7 to make the 4.3, but first they made a 229 V6 out of a 350. The 3.9 was from a small block Dodge. The 3.7 will never be upgraded as the new pentestar V6 gets better mileage, makes better power, and has lower emissions. That and it moves to one basic engine archeticture instead of several as the 3.7, 3.3/3.8, & 3.5/4.0 V6's are all very different from each other and require three seperate engine lines.
