Just recently gathered up all the goodies for an oil & filter change for the '05 Jeep Liberty Limited CRD :

0W40 Mobil One Full Synthetic:
7 quarts @ $5.24 per quart $36.68

MOPAR Oil Filter #05003558AA $9.38

Good ol' KY Sales Tax $2.77

Grand Total : $48.83

Schedule "A" calls for oil changes every 12,500 miles; Schedule "B" says every 6,250 miles. I'm at 4,800 miles or so now, probably will wait until 5,000 miles at least; after the first change I may stretch it to the 10k range, or simply run 5W40 Rotella-T Full Synthetic (an optional weight per the owner's manual) every 6,250.

Where did you find the 0W40 ?.........HJ

The wife bought all six off the shelf at Wal-Mart---I had to get the 7th at Advance Auto Parts.

How long will the dealer let you go (w/o saying you voided the warranty)between changes if you run synthetic?

See above post for Schedules "A" & "B" intervals....straight outta the owner's manual. I don't think there's a non-synthetic out there that meets the API criteria for the CRD's as of yet.

the CRD hold 7 quarts? wow thats alot of oil!

6.4 qts + filter capacity.....good protection capacity, but a little pricey to change. My 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 w/HO Cummins Turbo Diesel holds 12 quarts of the good stuff.

I'm running Mobil 1 5W40 synthetic for better protection in these hot KY summer days. It's $4.88/qt. at Wal*Mart.

I use NAPA Gold filters because they are supposedly made by Wix and are better quality than Mopar filters. They are $5.92 which is half the cost of Mopar filters also.

I did find out that the CRD uses the same oil and air filter as the 3.7L V6. I thought that was interesting.

Oil change #2 was a tad cheaper as I was disgusted at the way the Mobil 1 0W40 looks at 11,458 miles. I'm now running 5W40 Shell Rotella-T Full Synthetic.

5W40 Shell Rotella-T One Full Synthetic: ($14.22 per gallon/pro-rated)
7 quarts @ $3.56 per quart $24.89

MOPAR Oil Filter #05003558AA $9.38

Good ol' KY Sales Tax $2.06

Grand Total : $36.33

I saved $12.50 over the previous oil change....hey, that's 1/3 of a tank of fuel or so, plus the Rotella-T is a lot easier to round up than the 0W40.
