Does anybody know how to defeat the clutch interlock? Like so I don't have to push in the clutch to start the thing? I know there is a defeat switch when the vehicle is in 4-Lo, but I'd like it defeated permanently.

Is it just a fuse or something I can tamper with??;)

Somewhere between being sane and insane!

Yes there is,it only takes about 30 seconds to do it,but for safety I can't say how to do it.

I'm not so sure it's published in the manual. I know with Wranglers they tell you right in the manual how to override the switch. For offroading purposes. You just plug a fuse in where there isn't one or something. Well the KJ doesn't have this feature, beleive me, I looked. But if you want to look anyway, let me know if you find anything.

What I meant is, I can try and see where the switch is. At least you could play with a jumper wire or disconnecting the switch then.

Ahh I see. Well I figured it out today. I guess I was looking at it wrong, it wasn't hard at all. I was just going about it incorrectly. Thanks for the offer anyways!

Which wires did you jump to bypass switch? Mine is a 4 wire set up with 2 ground wires and a dark green/orange and a yellow/orange wire

What Year/Model do you have?
KJ or something else?

I can check in the wiring diagrams for you but you can either short out or disconnect the Switch mounted below the Clutch pedal...see which works...or remove/short out the Clutch Over-ride Relay located inside the Relay/Fuse box under the hood...see which works!o_O

I have actually been meaning to do this on my 2002 Export Diesel Manual recently. This is useful if I have breakdown on a busy road so by cranking the engine while in low gear I can move out of the way!

Normally I could put the Transfer Case in Low Range which over-rides the clutch-switch and tells the ECM to boost the power!

This is done to be able to start the Jeep in gear if stalled on a steep slope while off-roading....can only be done for a short distance on a firm surface though;)

Recently though my switch on the Transfer Case has failed but I seldom go off-road and can live without this feature....new switch is very expensive!

I must sort this out now on my Jeep before I do end up stalled on a busy road!:(

Let me know your Year/Model;)

Edit to Add: OK the wiring diagram for the 2002 Manual KJs....Gasser or Diesel...show that the Clutch Interlock Switch has 2 wires on it.
This switch goes across the contacts for the Clutch Switch Override Relay in the Fuse/Relay box under the hood.

I have just now finished connecting a small switch into this Fuse/Relay box (Power Distribution Center, PDC).

I basically fitted this Single Pole switch across the contacts on the Clutch Switch Override Relay ie. in parrallel to the switch activated by depressing the clutch.;)

I would have liked to have this switch inside the Cabin within easy reach but my RHD KJ has the PDC Center on the other side of the engine bay so a bit difficult to run wires into the cabin. So if my Jeep stalls in traffic I have to pop the Hood open, run around and operate my switch, get back in again and with the Jeep in first gear I can turn the engine over so as to be able to move the Jeep out of the way.o_O

I could leave this switch ON all the time but after 18 years with this Jeep I am in the habit of parking it in gear so I could easily start it in gear and crash into something!

So let me know the Year/Model of your Jeep and I can try find the correct Wiring Diagram.
