Clearifications on OME/Rancho Lift?

Well fellas I'm on the verge of actually lifting my KJ and I've got a few questions left unanswered. I know the Rancho RSX 17505's and 17004's have been "discontinued" so I've been thinking about just getting the OME NS131 Front Struts and OME132L Rear Long Travel Shocks instead of searching for the Ranchos. I found the 17505's on Amazon but can't find any 17004's for a decent price. Now my question is, are the Rancho's better than the OME's? Or do people just prefer them?

Also question number two, if I order all individual parts and have the struts assembled what can I do for a top plate? I have Boiler's 3/8" Shims that I would like to include in my lift if possible. Boiler says the shims will not work with the Daystar top plate supplied in the Frankenlift so what kind of top plate can I go with?

#1 I have heard that OME's are softer than Rancho's. You could also go with Bilstein's. It's all preference.

#2 Stock top plate with 3/8" spacers. Only reason you'd use the Daystar top plate would be if you had the 3/4" spacer in there that Rusty's sells (or you bought a preassembled Frankenlift).

Well I just looked up Bilstein shocks and struts from JBA and I can use them instead of OME's and save about 150 bucks for the same setup, would it be worth the the savings?

Yes would be worth it to go with Bilstein
You can use a 3/8 inch plate with the stock setup. Since you are not using a Daystar or Frankenlift you'll be fine

ah, a little clarification there. Doing an OME / Rancho lift is NOT a frankenlift. A frankenlift utilizes them as well as other special parts. Those other special parts make my 3/8 spacer too thick.

If you just do an OME/Rancho(or OME) lift with your stock top plates, you'll be fine. Thats what I did, and what lots of people do.

OME springs, whatever shocks you can get, 3/8" spacer, some clevis lift, and in the rear, OME/shocks, and an extra isolator or two.

If it were me, i'd get whatever ranchos you can find. You can have different brands front to rear. Rancho's have worked well for a lot of people and are pretty reasonable, unless you've got someone on amazon that is gouging.

Boiler I'm sorry I wasn't very clear, I was unaware of what top plate was used in the OME/Rancho, OME, or Bilstein lifts. I didn't know if you had to change it to accompany the new struts and springs or not. Thats why I was trying to figure out what I needed. But I do understand now and I will definitely just use the stock top plate and the 3/8" shims I've already purchased.

The ONLY reason you can not use the 3/8 inch thick plate is the bolts on the Frankenlift are shorter than what is on a stock plate. Just to make it clear to others.
And yes I installed 3/8 inch plates on Boilers lift when Chris and I did it.

The OME springs/top plate front lift is excellent on the front of an '05. On stock rims my 245/74/16 MT/R's fit great and the only thing that I had to trim was the front airdam. The 265/70/16's rub the sway bar slightly at full lock.

well guys i got your hopes up for nothing. i spend my lift money on a motorcycle today. LOL! some will probably not be fond of the idea but it was more practical for right now. with gas creeping back for my high traveling this summer i needed something that got 40mpg and i got it today! a 2006 Honda CBR 600 F4i

Difficult question...all I can say from experience...OME is a bit mushy (soft). Anyone with a CRD reading this..Get KONI front shocks...

I think I'm ready for one!

Awesome bike. F4i's are a blast, and reliable. Just keep your head screwed on screwed on straight. Would hate for you to wind up a statistic - keep control over that right wrist and keep the goin fast for the track!
