Well it was time for an oil change and tire rotation on our 02. So I checked the brakes while I was at it. Front pads were ready to be replaced. So I started on the drivers side first, took out the two caliper bolts, lifted the caliper up and the brake line pretty much fell apart. The brake line comming off the caliper is ridgid for about 5 inches then it turn into a flexible rubber line that is where it broke. I looked into the rubber end of the line and it was nothing but rust. Well, I removed the rest of the brake line from where it comes through the inner fender and went to autozone. They had the right and left one in stock ($14.95 each) so I replaced them both. I just wondered if anyone else had this happen, the line on the pass side was fine.

Yes - that happened to mine a couple of years ago. On mine, it was that the crimp between the metal hard line and the rubber line had rusted and separated. I was on the road when it happened, but luckily at a stop light when it came apart. I wasn't far from my house, so I limped it home using the emergency brake.

Not hard to fix. Something to pay specific attention to if you live in rust-prone states.
