Any thoughts? Possible brain issue, etc

Engine light has been on. When tested, said programmed for a standard (I have an automatic, bought used a couple years ago, 160,00 miles, 2006 CRD 4x4).
Then parasitic draw kept draining battery so mechanic added turn on, off switch (may not have been best idea??).
Then transmission went out, so had new used one installed.
Then, kept stalling on us with ESP/ABS traction symbols on. Had towed to Jeep dealer and its to old a model for them to diagnose. No other mechanic will take because because it's a diesel, or months before they can get to it.
I will try to get parasitic draw determined, and someone suggested try reprogramming the brain.
Any suggestions out there? Tks

Much to try before the brainwash.

What are the engine codes causing the check engine light?

The ON/OFF switch is good old-school thinking for machines without brains but probably a bad idea for the brainy machines.

How old is your battery? The computers do stupid things without good electricity.

The diesel engine has a decoupler on the alternator that can go bad. Look for rusty dust where the pulley mounts to the alternator.

The ESP/ABS light might be a bad sensor at one of the wheels. There's also an electrical connector at the rear axle that goes bad.

Thanks for your thoughts. The battery is fairly new.
Someone else mentioned that it may not be computer at all. Lights may have come on because car stalled (though engine light has always been on). He said it sounds like a fuel injector problem???
Finally found mechanic who works on diesel and 2006 jeeps who has a diagnostic device, who will look at it.

Interrupting the supply to the gearbox ECU will probably make it relearn on every start, not good for gearbox life.
If you do a search on here there's at least one good write-up on finding parasitic battery drain issues.
A cheap ebay code reader will pull engine fault codes, any garage with a modern scan tool will be able to pull all the codes, the tools are normally universal so even if the garage aren't good enough to work on a simple old CRD they should be able to give you an idea of what's going on.

Thank you! Yes, what came up in past with engine light was that it was programmed for standard and it's an automatic??
I think no one knew what to do with that??
