Air Filter Air Scoop

Hi Guys,

My KJ is pretty new to me but im thinking of putting a cold air intake on it and changing the exhaust to get some more power out of it for the sand dunes here in Dubai.

When sticking my head under the bonnet yesterday and having a closer look at the stock airfilter system it seemed to me that the "air scoop" for the filter box seems to take its air from between the inner and outer skin of the bonnet? Am i right in saying so as it seems like a very restrictive system to me.

Also lastly i was thinking of going for one of the mopar cold air intakes unless anyone can advise me otherwise?

It may be restrictive at lower speeds but at higher speeds air should actually be pushed into the intake.

Some people get a flexible hose and route it from the air box up to the grill area to give it more air. This would be much better than any cold air intake system would be.

Dont expect any gains from an exhaust+intake. If youre wanting more power to get up those dunes getting some 4:10 gears would be the best. If you have larger tires lower gears would help but it would also hurt hw mpg if you do not have larger tires.

Either way, a loss is a gain.

Thanks for the info. At the moment im gunna stick with the stadard gearing as i don't want to put too much money into the KJ. As far as which cold air intake to go for though has anyone got any recommendations?

Holy Friggin Hotness.

So a cold air intake in Dubai is like a hot air intake in Siberia right. I've been to Kuwait during the summer and I know that there is no point in having a CAI there because there is never ever any cold air anywhere. Don't know that much about Dubai but I am assuming that it cannot be much different since it is fairly close to Q8.

Yeah Dubai is like Kuwait, hot......very hot. Im thinking of putting a cold air intake on to try and help as the air is just so hot here. There's no cool air in summer but anything I can do to try and reduce the termpreature of the air being drawn into the engine should help. Plus looking at the stock air feed coming from inbetween the inner and outer skin of the hood it seems very restrictive to me. Any advice is appreciatted though. I'm not sure if the gulf spec liberty's are the same as those in the states so there could be a few suttle differences.

run a 3 inch tube from the grill to the stock airbox best mod you can make CAIs are a waste of money and time

Anyone got any pictured of running a tube from the grill into the stock filter box? I had a look last night but being a gulf edition the car is equipped with the heavy duty cooling fan and so the cowl and infact radiator don't really seem to leave any room to run a pipe around the side to the open grill to get cool air.

thats about the way I did mine but used a flexable 3 inch dryer vent, works much better, and when you put your hand in front of it you can feel it drawing your hand in towards the grill so it works!
