Diesel smell

I have a Jeep Cherokee kj 2003 CRD. Done almost everything to this vehicle over the years.
Lately it's developed a diesel smell when starting in the morning or first time for the day and lasts around 5 minutes. Doesn't do it after first first and no smoke, just the usual on a cold start, basically a little white ish smoke no blue or grey. I've replaced the PVC, fuel filter, air filter, you name it and it's still there.
Any suggestions on what it could?
It's doing my head in.

Bad glow plug or controller?

I know nothing about CRD but to have a bit of diesel in my blood from working around bobcat loaders and kubota tractors.
