My 02 Lib, 3.7, 162k, has a loud rattle(jingling noise) in the front whenever I put in in 4wd (regardless of whether it's part-time or full-time 4wd). What could this be? There's no other noise or lack of performance, just this very loud rattle/jingling noise. What should I check?

More than likely the front driveshaft. Check the boot by the transfer case and for grease splattered underneath.

Agreed ^^ could be a cv joint
Mine went out and i noticed it at the sand dunes, i had loud clunking when i accelerated in 4x4 and a rubbing noise similar to a rotor squeal in 2wd. check the boots completely for tears and make sure you rotate them fully to inspect for small rips. its a fairly serious problem if its a cv because it could grenade and rip everything out in its path (transmission, transfer case and just about anything you can imagine) and if you have problems with it if you have to replace it message me and ill run you through it. good luck
