I've developed a exhaust leak and after searching have discovered there are 2 tabs on top of the Y-pipe behind the front converter, near the shaft running from the front differential to the t-case on the drivers side of the vehicle. Turns out the hole is where the tab is welded to the pipe.
My question is, does anyone know if these tabs are for a heat shield? We thought maybe they were. So now I'm wondering if I can grind the tab and weld the hole in the pipe or do I need to weld the hole and replace a heat shield if that is in fact what these tabs are for?
