What up guys. A while ago i posted something about turning my 2wd kj into a 4x4 and I was wondering why I would have to get the BCM and PCM reprogramed for a 4x4? What do both those computers have to do with the 4x4 system? I would want Command Trac and mine is a 06

Because they have special programming for the 4 Wheel Drive, more specifically, the low range. Also, for ESP, the list goes on and on.

I am pretty sure that it would be a lot cheaper to trade your 2WD in for a 4WD model.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
It will be way cheaper to trade in for a 4wd KJ like JL Rockies stated. The parts needed and programming would amount to thousands more then you'd loose in trade in value, not to mention the labor cost since the ****** would have to be pulled and torn apart to change the rear output shaft(or a new 4wd ****** will need to be bought).

Oh and without the programming it still would work, just not right and in a 4wd KJ the airbags are disabled in 4low and some of the ESP junk is different in 4low also.

I agree with it being cheaper to trade in the 2wd for a 4wd. Specially since if you look at Windows Sticker the Transfer case is a like $500-$700 (some where around there) Extra.
