Hi, My 02 3.7 just started making a loud ticking/clacking sound with a low and unstable idle (500-600 rpms), the noise seems to disappear or its at least less pronounced at 1500 rpms or higher. I'm also getting a check engine light for camshaft sensor failure.

Does this sound like it could be the lash adjusters? This engine engine has about 13K miles on it since the rebuild.

update:

I forgot to mention I also got a cylinder 3 misfire code.

compression and leak down test yielded:

cyl 1 = 195psi leak down 10%
cyl 2 = 190psi leak down 15%
cyl 3 = 120psi leak down 40%
cyl 4 = 195psi leak down 15%
cyl 5 = 180psi leak down 20%
cyl 6 = 188psi leak down 15%

Cylinder 3 is the the problem cylinder and more specifically the intake valve is not seating completely. lash adjuster and rocker arm appear to be ok, no visible damage to the spring, valve or seat.

next step, I'm going to pull the head and take a closer inspection.

The good news is that's the easier head to pull - not as much "stuff" in the way...
