replaced the motor on my parents jeep at 120k miles when the valve seat dropped and destroyed the motor.

so it all went fine, new motor started up and runs fine but there is a little after about 2500 miles it is starting to develop what sounds like timing chain noise from the front end. its only at idle as soon as you give it some gas it goes away.

anyone have any clue as to why this started or what is going on and how i can fix it?

thanks.

The noise is there all the time doesnt matter if the engine is warm or cold, so what would i have to do to fix this? it sounds like a diesel engine and they want it to go away

Time for new chains(there are 3 of them in the 3.7) and new tensioners.Looking at about $1400 or so for the job if a shop does it,not a 1st time DIY job either.

well the motor has maybe 3000 miles on it, any chance i could just replace the tensioner and be done with it? also can the tensioner be changed without removing the chains?
