02 electric fan?

alright, my wife ran her temp hand almost into the red zone about 1 mile before getting home. she said the ac got hot while pulling the hill before she got here. she said that on the road it was running cool as it should and the temp hand was normal.

i checked the electrical fan connection and sure enough as i suspected, the guys who put it back together used tape and very lose connectors.

after i clamped them a tad tight with some pliers i plugged the 2 wires back in and everything is fine now.


question, is the fan supposed to push air out, or pull air in? just double checking before i seal it with some silicone.

thats what i thought. didnt know if i crossed the wires or not without knowing. thanks...

well thats interesting. just got back from driving it after fixing it back the way it should be. everything is just fine. not only did the body shop here use loose conectors, but they also had the fan wired backwards. it was pulling air out of the engine bay. i guess the outside temp today just got hot enough to finally move the hand. makes me mad she has drove around like this for 2 or 3 months now.

note to all, if you have a fan replaced by anyone but yourself, double check to make sure it is running the right way.

Dang dude, thats pretty insane they had it pushing air out. That just counter acts any air trying to come into the rad while driving down the road.

Cant trust anyone. Hopefully no damage was done to the engine or ******. That stupid temp gauge tells you nothing so it may of slightly been over heating the entire time.

yeah, im sure it was running hot the whole time as well. she did mention it smelled hot at times. she tells me this yesterday. lol..i changed the oil and filter just in case it broke the oil down. the ****** felt just fine yesterday and today. seems we got lucky on this one. could have been alot worse if it was hotter outside or she was further from home. either way it got pretty dang hot to make the ac blow warm air when she was driving slow.

IF that was a repair shop, or dealer, THEY will be responsible for any damages that may have been done to the engine or transmission, if in fact they wired it backwards to push air out. THEY put in on backwards, they can be held accountable for it.

exactly, but proving it would be hard to do and cost me lawyer money probably. sure i could just video the fan running backwards, but still you see my point i think. they would probably argue i did it myself. i am calling them tomorrow and telling them they need to check things like that and if something would have been damaged i would have made them liable. the fan was the only thing i didnt look at when getting the jeep back. never occurred to me to check it. ****** me off.

But proving it is another thing since he already "fixed" it which takes all the liability off the shop that worked on it before hand.To get anything it should have been towed back to the shop "as is" then they would be liable.
