Hi i just replaced my rockers, is it the rear section or all the rocker thats rusted pictures will help,as they are a simple shape its easy to make a repair section. I went overboard and cut my outer rocker's off and had 3mm thick galv steel ones fabricated look factory and good for 20 years +...

2004 so should be ok and car runs well so egr valve working ok time will tell :)

Going to blank the vacume on the egr and see how it runs for a week or 2 its the Uk spec 2.8 interested to see the mpg figures to and from work .has anyone else tried this :gr_grin:

They do seem to holding up well,hope i dont see one on hack n pack on utube ha ha the amount fo rust some of the American cars have is unbelievable as it can't get that bad here due to strict mot (inspection) law's every 12 months

sounds like the uk and us where they salt are about the same,love this jeep so going the extra mile to help it against rust

Thanks for the link,thats very handy didn't now about the torque converter being different ,why would they do that The cambelt on my 2004 is every 62,000 so was done a few years ago

Yes I am fully qualified mechanic of over 30 years, i am also an MOT tester (think you call it something else in the US) Here in the uk cars are tested every 12 months and all repairs to rockers chassis or structural arias must be welded repairs so no fiberglass or bondo allowed :icon_mrgreen:

well i brought my jeep Cherokee (as its called in the uk) 2.8 crd with some faults (got it cheap) first job was to fix slight blistering at the rear of the rockers, so used this as an excuse to make 3mm thick rock sliders and must say I am very happy with them :) next job was the heater fan only...

My jeep is mint also was just the rear of the rockers,so just thought do it as it will only get worse and make it better and stronger than original. did it over a weekend and the end result looks spot on. will post a better picture when I get the chance I also waxoiled the entire car rockers...

Going to fit a heater fan speed resister this weekend as only works on max speed.not sure where its located yet

Think every kj will suffer this rust in time the car is mint not even a stone chip but the rockers have been eaten away at the rear from inside first you see is small blisters. Will take pictures and post when done

Well I have had my jeep less than a week and this weekend I will be cutting out the rockers and fitting 6x4 box section as I hate rust so must be 100% cut out.do they rust out undre the plastic wheel flares or will they be ok.

Hi all just got my 2.8 crd and love the info here, it's a 2004 checked my rear stop light for rust which is ok but both my rockers (sill in the uk) are blistered at the rear so i have a little work to do.Hoping this turns out to be a good toy :)
