New rear sway bar installed today, along with new bushings. All Mopar.

Here’s what was wrong with the old one. The bushings were clapped out but the bar was so rusty that you couldn’t put new bushings on it.

Keeping a 230,000 mile (370,149 km) Jeep going is a hobby in itself.

Also I have an 07 Jeep Commander 4.7 V8 with 160,000 miles I am trying to keep happy.

Kind of like having two girlfriends at the same time or something.

The goal with the Commander is to keep her stock but in good mechanical condition. She has needed some significant work but is getting there. www.jeepcommander.com has been a super helpful forum. WK Grand Cherokee info is often relevant too since they are essentially the same underneath.

kid has been looking at older trucks as well. I told him get something with a 318 in it. the body and frame might disappear in a cloud of rust dust, but the engine will survive the heat death of the universe.

Wire brush and some OSPHO. Install new bushings. Easy.

I have those, but the diameter of the rod under the bushings will be smaller, due to the loss of powder coat and some metal to rust. I decided to go for a new bar for this reason.

I got my AC working. I decided to get the refill can back on it and fill it until it goes or blows. It decided to go, so I have nice cool air, again.

However, getting that going came at the cost of the traction control wigging out on me this morning on my drive to work. I was on dry pavement in second gear accelerating, and the light started flashing at me and the throttle became unresponsive. It went away when I backed off a bit. As I was cruising at 70, I could feel the brakes touching off here and there, sometimes I’d get the light. The fix? Pulling the fuse

I ran some 505 CRO from ATS chemical through the engine. Added to the relatively new oil in the crankcase, started the engine and ran it at 2k RPM for 15 minutes. Let it cool down, drained the oil, changed the filter, refilled with fresh oil.

The oil had maybe 500 miles on it, it was pretty light but by the time the 15 minutes was up and I drained it it came out DARK. Not black but definitely much darker than it started. It's hard to say anything definitively but from just running it in the driveway at idle at full operating temp it is noticeably quieter. I didn't have high hopes but it definitely seems to have helped with a variety of noises including the timing chain rattle.

Between this engine flush and the Redline SL1 fuel system cleaner I don't actually know that the Jeep has run this smooth and quiet in the entire time I've owned it. Idk if anyone here has run the 505 CRO (I confess I didn't search) but it seems to do a good job.

Had a few spare hours so I started fitting the leather interior out of my spares Limited into my Sport, got the rear seat swapped out, hopefully have a play with the fronts tomorrow. I'll find out how much joy the wiring loom brings.

Along that line, I am looking for seat covers. I have the factory sport cloth Renegade package seats with cheap covers from the PO. Want something in neoprene, but not trying to spend 400 for Wet Okole....
