Is there a "towing package" and what is it?

Most OEM towing packages are oil and trans radiators with some spec suspensions. Anyone know if this gen of liberty has one and what it includes?

I haven't looked enough to know. If there is a trans and/or oil dedicated radiator I'd like to get the part numbers to put them on and maybe save some wear when hauling my 800lb trailer on grades.

Nearly all KJ's came with the ****** cooler - like uss2defiant said, the '02s and very early '03s had the 45RFE with the in-radiator cooler. The rest of the '03s and later have the 42RLE ****** with the external cooler mounted low and in front of the radiator.

So the additional components with the tow package were the mechanical fan and extended fan shroud, factory hitch and wiring for a 7-pin round harness.

If you're only hauling 800 pounds you won't have any problem with the standard cooling system. Many on here tow a lot more than that with the standard cooling and no problems.

is there a "can i tow this and how" post somewhere?

The limit is 3500 pounds with the standard cooling, 5000 pounds with the tow package.

With a tow package-equipped KJ the trailer is limited to 25 feet and the frontal area can be no more than 64 square feet (8X8 feet.) The trailer should have electric brakes and load levelers/sway control.

All that said, I've towed close to 5000 pounds and the KJ handles it remarkably well. I do wish I had a brake controller for the big trailers since getting a trailer moving is rarely the issue - stopping it, however, is always the challenge (that's true for ANY vehicle that tows including semi's.)

Overdrive should be OFF any time you tow.

Here's where I put mine. Cris-cross bracket on the bottom since I had them and a foam pad on top to keep it still.

I remember reading there's this black or blue wire fore the brake controller on the driverside kick panel.

if the KJ came with a tow package from the factory then the blue wire will either be behind the white cover behind the kick panel or possibly bundled up around the steering column.

If the tow harness was added later (as mine was) then the blue wire is part of the harness and ends up either behind the climate control panel or the drop-down knee panel under the steering wheel.

there has to be a way to connect to all the OEM trailer wiring connections & relays pre installed and not used.

meanwhile you might want to install a larger capacity external trans cooler such as the Derale Electra-Cool Remote Oil/Trans Cooler (with a fan)

To use a 7-pin harness it would take a TON of work and days studying the electrical diagrams for the KJ to figure it out. Most of it makes no sense at all. To "cheat" a little bit you can get a 4-flat adapter that taps into the rear lights, then a kit from etrailer.com to expand it to a 7-pin round harness. Will require running leads to the front of the KJ and tapping into the brake switch, an ignition-switched 12 volt, a constant hot from the battery, etc. By the time you do all that crap you could have installed the factory harness (including the 'supplemental harness' if your KJ didn't come from the factory with an EVIC) and you're up and running with a completely relayed system. There are no relays pre-installed and not used for the 4-flat or 7-pin trailer harnesses - they're included with the factory add-on harnesses.

Far easier and you know it will be right when you fire it up.

I'm eventually going to tow a 14' camper that is full-function. They are usually around 2,000 pounds though.

I'm going to do the inline ****** cooler, probably one of those aftermarket ones, and convert to mechanical fan before that.

You already have a ****** cooler in front of your radiator - if you want to add an additional cooler install a radiator from an '02 (or aftermarket for an '03) and run the lines to the in-radiator cooler first then out to the existing cooler.

There's a pic in this thread that shows you what I'm talking about.
