I'm wondering, in terms of convential oil. What is everyone using?
I've had good experiance on both convential and syn Penzoil, but performance feels slugish on Mobil Oils.

Has anyone tried the truck blends, syn-blends, castrol, etc?

I'll be sticking with dealer oil changes for the first 36 months or 36K miles. Once my warranty is up, THEN I will switch over to synthetic Mobil1 and do it myself. Unless the dealer has Synthetic Mobil1 and is willing to put that in for me.

No way I'm doing my own oil changes under warranty with no way of proving that I'm following their schedule.

They should be willing to put anything in that you prefer as long as you request it. There might be a small extra charge because they buy mopar in bulk.

Well, I expect there to be an extra charge, but they ought to carry mobil1, and not have a problem doing it, since the owners manual suggests using Mobil1 Synth on the CRDs.

This is great.
But I heard that you had to go over to full syn early, if you didn't you were likly to find oil leaks from seals because of the syn oil able to find it's way into places that regular oil can't.

And what kind of filters has everybody been using? I bought a bunch of Fram PH3600 as they were on sale.

Plus, what type of oil do you think the mopar oil is? They have to be buying it from someone, and typically several studies are done as to which oil is the best in the build up of a new vehicle. Or at least that's what I've heard, similar to Porsche using only "shell" oil...

From what I've read, the Fram filters (even the doubleguard) are crappy, I used to use them on my neon but have switched recently now that I have the KJ (now I buy Mopar filters for the neon too... out of convenience). Some tests have shown the Fram to be the worst out there, something about crappy construction and internal disintegration, so I stick with the Mopar ones, tests have shown them to be average to better than average. I'm not up to buying a $15-$20 filter every 3 months, I just don't see the need, but at the very least if something goes wrong, at least I'm using the "in-house" brand so they'll have to fix it under warranty (on the KJ, not the neon... no warranty left on the 97 neon!).

That's a great study SiLveRLiB2k2.
Well I think just by the response from everyone, I'll be swtiching over to full syn. Mobil 1 sounds good, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for Pennzoil and Valvoline.

I assume everyone using full syn is changing the "oil" around 5000-6000 miles? Based on average use?

I hadn't heard about anything bad about Fram, but seeing how I have a couple of them, and I have the reciept, I might as well return them, or just change it twice as often until I use them up.

Thanks, great info.
I don't know why, I haven't already gone over to syn for the Liberty, I ran syn on all my other vehicles. I'll chalk it up to a massive brain fade. ](*,)
After, I love my Liberty more than any previous vehicle.

I'll do it Friday, when I got some free time. Thanks guys.

i waited like 3 changes before moving to full synth....
i did some math, and in the long run...it would cost me a little less using syth than dino oil...(basing it on a one year period...)

Synthetic or not, 7K between changes is just SCARY to me.

How many miles do you have now? I'm up for my next change sometime later this month.
