A quick way for a mechanic to see your pads life is with a mirror and flash light. From the back side of the rim you can angle the mirror in between the rim and rotor/caliper assembly giving a very good view of the pads.

Just an idea, I havent done it because I have no children. Maybe try and attach some kind of tether to the handle right above. I wouldnt recomend him using it to swing on just something to grab and give a little pull up.
Very good write up. The dodge diesels have used the hex head plug for years. AS far as that oil being that color is normal, sometimes can stain your hands without a good scrubbing.

May be a dumb question, I can already see the flaming, but I am going to ask it anyway. Couldnt you use some kind of snorkel on your exhaust to redirect the fumes out of the tent?
I had to place my original sentry key up underneath the dash permanently so my remote start would work. I look at it this way though, I can now use any key from anywhere to start it so if I do loose the key it wont cost a fortune to replace.

The dealer I used to work at had to remove all the wheels off the Jeeps and all the trucks with the wheels underneath because we were loosing so many of them. We built a huge tire rack and labeled them with the stock number and had to keep them inside.
