Hello, I’m new here. New to jeeps. New to liberty. Only had it a couple months. But so far I’m really liking this little Ute. The diesel is the perfect size and power level for my needs in this rig. Plan to use it for daily duties and some towing. I ordered and enclosed trailer for it. So I’m putting together all the mods that will make that a safe and solid platform for that. But I thought I’d post up the mods I’ve done and the mods I’m planning to do, and see if anyone has comments or suggestions on those. So here goes:


MODS DONE:

-OME 1.5” lift

-Extra spring pads on rear

-+40hp tune

-Custom aluminum roof rack

-Delete EGR

-Thermostat 192° Housing mod

-PCV routed to air

-Power steering filter

-Towing brake controller

-Several AC/hvac mods (ac now stays off unless I push button)

-Added fan off “flow” mode in hvac

-Tinted windows

-Touchscreen NAV

-Wool seat Covers

-Cargo husky liner

-Weathertech mats

-Gutted CAT

-EGT gauge

-Disabled viscous coolant heater




PLANNED MODS:

-Suncoast TC

-New front pump in trans

-Shift kit

-Additional ****** cooler

-ARP head studs

-Eaton truetrac LSD’s

-Backup cam(s)

-In tank lift pump

-Webasto coolant heater for engine preheat and hot tub (Also might heat the camper trailer hydronically)

-Custom built bumpers / nerf bars

-Somehow, someway, find a way to reflash the TCM to shift like when it was new.

CRD Jeep looks great, & you chose wisely with the OME lift !
You have been busy with mods, & future plans sound interesting.
What year is your Jeep?

I like your roof rack...looks very neat!:)

I have the Mopar Aluminum twin racks which did some serious work when I was supervising the building of my new house 15 years ago which was a 4 hours drive away. Have removed the racks now.

I also have the Mopar Mud Flaps front and rear on my 2002 Export 2.5 CRD....looks good and is good for stopping the transfer of large Elephant droppings in the local Game Parks onto the Jeep's bodywork!;)

My Jeep is pretty much stock-standard....do not need any Lifts etc. for the sand roads in the Parks.

I also like your roof rack, nice work!

You probably already know about the LOSTJEEPS forum and the info available on CRDs. Green Diesel Engineering (GDE) has a transmission tune.

GDE has quit offering anything for American customers because freedom rings.

That's a bummer! I thought it was just the engine tunes that got shut down. Freedom sure has changed.

Yeah it sure has. I’d have my buddy in Vancouver just send in my tcm for me to them but apparently they even check VIN numbers to make sure they are not Americans disguised as Canadians so honestly I think gde can kick rocks. I don’t like how they treated me, left me hanging on another vehicle even though mere weeks earlier we had discussed what we are doing. They are rude jerks.
However I’m not totally sure but I think I may have gotten lucky on eBay and found an old oem tcm that isn’t f37 molested.

F37 cost me four miles per gallon. I didn't know it messed with the tcm; bummer.

Turns out the reduction of use of fuel is not important to the powers that be. All they care about is emissions and in this case also protecting the weak components by detuning and ruining the shift points which is what killed your mpg

I bought a used tcm on eBay and I think somehow I got extremely lucky and it was not flashed to f37! So, my probs with that tuning might be over. I hesitate to say for sure because it’s hard to tell but I’m pretty sure since I’m fully locked top gear before 60mph that must be the case.
I did mess with the hemi gasser tcm as well but I’m not sure I like it better. Definitely appeals to me in some ways however, as it responds well being “shifted” semi automatically which is nice for leisurely driving but for aggressive driving it was hard to keep it in the torque band. Might try it again when I beef up the trans.....

CAN you help me with the EGR delete I am have trouble finding software and a way to flash the ECM ...my jeep stays in limp mode ...I need to flash the ECM to get rid of the EGR and EGR cooler

The tune won’t really delete the EGR but it changes the call for EGR to 0% so if you have a functioning unit it will essentially be like a delete. However it sounds like yours was fouled up, if it’s fouled open then the ecu tune won’t really help until you physically delete the unit and replace with a pipe.

Clarification/// I do not have a EGR VALVE I have a straight pipe.
I do not have a EGR cooler, I removed and installed blockoff plates
I have the Factory Tune.

are you saying to just buy a tuner and I am all set?...I have seen other posts on LOSTJEEP for the full EGR delete with softer ware a a vid.. but the links are not good any more

what tuner do you have?

Also (FYI) I removed the intake manifold, and cleaned it (big job) due to the build up, -it was the full spectrum, Timing belt, H20 pump, all the pullies, serp belt, tSTAT..gaskets, hoses ..ect

I did my tuning with my laptop for free, not sure about what tuners are available or what they do. If you buy the special cable and do some research you can have some nice tunes for only the cost of the cable tho.

I have the cable and MPPS. Pulled tune from Lost Jeep thread that should have deleted FCV. No change for me. Still getting P1140 code for FCV. Would like to make and verify my own changes.

Lost Jeeps references Titanium, but licensed version is $1200-$2000. I can't justify that for it (yet).

Future plan is to use the same drivetrain in my 61 Willys Wagon. Will need to be able to delete many things for that.

Same here, mpps. Worked fine. I might try the hotter tunes also, it I’m worried about towing egt temps.
Cool idea to use the power pack on something else! Please post up when you do, I’d love to see. This engine has a lot going for it certainly, but the trans leaves me wanting for another option. Is there an easy way to slap a manual on it? The factory manual they used in the gassers doesn’t seem to be up to the task either.

I can't find a feature in MPPS that lets me edit the code. I can read or write files to the ECU, but that's it - can't edit them. If you have a trick, please share.

It will probably be a couple of years before I finish my wagon. My experience has been with older tech. Can-bus is a new world for me and I have a steep learning curve to get there.

I don't know about an easy way. It seems like making an adapter would be straight forward enough and going from auto to manual should be easier, but finding a fly-wheel and overriding the PCM code (I assume it wants TCM info) might be tricky.
