Front passenger CV axle

I know a lot of you don't recommend using the Cardone Select 66-3352, but here in Mexico the only alternatives I've found are Duralast (which I have even less faith in) or Mopar from the stealership (they wanted US $400 just for the intermediate shaft). Can't get NAPA shafts here.


What I want to know is has anybody fitted the Cardone shafts, as I am also worried about the comments of them being the wrong length.

I ordered my intermediate shaft through Amazon, I believe it was a crown automotive brand $80. You're probably best of getting a remanned CV axle in the hopes it's not a remanned wrong length.

I got the intermediate shaft from Amazon, and that's were I've seen the Cardone CV shaft.
I think the Duralast are reman's but like I said, I wouldn't put any faith in them.

I used to work at Autozone, who brands the Duralast parts... There is no company named "Duralast". There are only so many places and companies out there whose business is to remanufacture cv drive axles. The chances are very high that whomever remans the ones for A1-Cardone, or most any other brand, is the same company remanning them for everyone else.

They are no better no worse than any other reman. Most of the time that I saw them fail, it was because some moron installed it wrong, not fully seating it into the differential, beating on the end of the joint with a 10kg sledgehammer, stripping the threads out on the spindle nut... etc.

The issue is not generally how they were installed or made its just that they are way too short. If you are stock and sagged they may just reach but stock or above a lot of those have issues of not being long enough to click in. I've had to swap out 8-10 for people who paid shops to replace then had issues. Got the right ones, no issues . Shame the OP can not get NAPA remmans

I may be tackling this soon. I have the same noise that just started, but I also have popping when hitting certain pot holes, and popping when I turn. I'm sure the cv's are toast by now, so that's where I'm going to start.
I think my other problem is that I tightened the front up while it was still in the air. I had pretty much everything off when I did it so...
Tomm, where is the best place to get the axles from? I remember reading remanned have a better chance of being the right size than new. Is that true?

NAPA remanned are the best way to go, been using them for years now from stock KJs and including others and my own 4 inch plus lifted KJ
Just put one in a few days ago on my 2.5 inch lifted 03
Yes all bushings should be tightened with full weight on them

Napa remans are Cardone, as are Duralast ones. So I'd get any remanned one. Cardone throws out cores that aren't original.

The Cardone's I've seen on Amazon are listed as new, not reman's. The annoying thing is that my CV joints are in good condition, I just have a huge amount of slack where the CV joint meets the intermediate shaft. Seems like an odd design adding another join that can wear out.
Is it the shaft that joins the CV joints that is too short, if so maybe I could remove the CV joints from the new axle and fit them to the old shaft?

All intermediate shafts are the same.
Its the length of the overall CV that is too short
Not an odd design others have the same thing

I was referring to the axle shaft between the two CV's, not the intermediate shaft.

2 things...
1. Pull it apart and see, if the intermediate shaft is rounded off then that's the issue, the CV is still good then.
2. If they both look good, then it's probably that bearing in the "axle tube" where the intermediate shaft lives.

I'll put my money on scenario 1., just don't want to be in the position of having it dismantled then finding I need the CV axle.

Well how about that, you're right the Duralast from Autozone are Cardone. I've attached a picture, but with such severe restrictions on file size, the resolution has probably been reduced so much you can't read it.

I compared the length of my original and the Autozone remans and they are the same length, maybe that problem has been resolved.

I was somewhat concerned that the intermediate shaft and inner cv had no grease on the splines, just a pile of oxide dust, even though the FSM says they should be greased.
