I am adding a PA speaker to my KJ that will hook in to my CB. It is a small 5" PA speaker and it says that it is weather proof. I was thinking of either putting it in one of the fog light holes, in the engine compartment, or other place yet to be determined. I would like any input on where a good place to mount this PA speaker would be. As well as any places that I should not mount it. :help:

I picture that speaker being like the horn, get it full of mud and it will likely stop working.

You could try mounting it temporarily in a couple places using wire ties, then see which on seems like the safest for the speaker while still giving good performance.

If you are trying to broadcast forward, under hood facing close to rad may work good.
Check your specs on the cb radio & Speaker/hailer. Speaker says waterproof, but the cheap ones rust quick and fall apart. Under hood away from rain/mud etc is better.
Most radios don't have much watts in PA output, and you may be disappointed in loudness/clarity.
IDK what the cops run but it must be in the 10-20watt range output.

Prof I like your idea of just temp mounting it in a couple of different places to see where it would work the best.

LibertyTC ideally I would put it in front of the radiator but behind the grill but I don't think there is quite enough room. I also don't expect that it would be that loud but the fact that I have mic gain might help a little bit. It is rated for 112db which should be decent. But it is one of the cheap ones and I really don't want it to die all that quick from a little water so it will definitely be going in the engine bay somewhere that is protected decently from the elements. Also this one is made mainly of abs plastic but I'm sure that the components on the inside that are metal would rust really quick.

I will take a look this evening when I finish getting the new cb installed for a good place to mount the PA speaker. Thanks for all the help.

Just out of curiosity why are you wanting a PA Speaker? Don't be one of those guys that gets caught pulling over an off-duty officer LOL.

The reason I wanted a PA speaker was just to have fun with it. While on the trail possibly play snip-it of a song or something like that. I have no plans of having anything with a siren noise on it, so pulling over an off-duty officer shouldn't be a problem. And if I get frustrated enough with someone I can yell at them to get off of their cell phone and just drive. :happy175:

Well if mine ever comes up missing I wouldn't be surprised. I also won't loose all that much either, so it is worth it just to have a little fun even if that is what happens.
