My Renegade was rear ended over a month ago at about 50-60kph while I was almost stopped, Hitch and receiver hook took most the impact but skid plate was dented in and touching the gas tank, I can imagine the tank would have been damaged if there had been no skid plate and I can't imagine if I did not have a hitch.
Between you and ftaa I am convinced. Glad you were not hurt. :)

Thanks dude, However the downside I can think of is the skid plate puncturing the gas tank in a hard enough collision but a direct hit to an unprotected tank would have the same effect.

We CAN solve this, Senor Marchionne, with some 3/16" plate and a few stainless-steel bolts....your call!

After seeing a rear end involving a 02-04 liberty i do believe the hitch will help but not in anything over a 35-45 mph accident. This incident a early90s accord rear ended the liberty at aprox 35-40 and went under it pushed the tank forward into the rear axle and popped BOTH straps out of the clips resulting in the tank falling to the ground BUT IT DID NOT RUPTURE.

Gas tank Skid & a solid hitch offers better protection.
Then add one of these to your hitch and you are all set.

Step Father took his 05 KJ in today to Belmont Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Barnesville Ohio. They told them on the phone 1 to 2 hours. So they figured they would have to wait a long time. Sitting there talking and next thing you know theirs come around to the front. Less than 30 minutes, old 1.5 inch hitch gone, new hitch installed ready to roll

I'm still waiting on a notice saying they have the part for the last airbag recall. I got a letter saying there was a recall but parts were not available yet. I heard they are replacing the control module as the jumper fix was not effective at preventing the erroneous deployment, not the airbag itself. Anyone else have more info on this?

Had the jumper harness done a while back. Still haven't had the hitch done since I have the factory tow package. Sounds like they still may replace some bolts anyway.

i just went to the dodge place in town the day we bought it and had them check for recalls since my wife will be driving this most the time anyway and they did the one for the jumper harness and told me to get ready cause in july i will need to bring it back to get all new air bags all in all though i only give 2K for the ride the girl i bought it from had the trans rebuilt and new cv shafts on it already but she went to trade it in and all they would give her was $700 for it since it reaked of cigerattes and weed well i aired it out for 4 days under the carport and shampooed the seats and carpets and headliner and now no more smell lol

Recall Hitch

Took my 07 in to Hall (Virginia Beach) in April, one week after getting it, as it had no hitch.
Beat the seller down $150 for no hitch.
Hall took it in the day after I called them and I drove off with my new hitch an hour later!

Hitch was the only outstanding recall for mine. Dealer had it completed in about 30 minutes.

While under the rear end trying to find the source of a noise (see other post) I noticed what they did in terms of the recall when you have a factory hitch already installed. they stuck a label on there saying don't leave on the ball mount if not towing something. Took them more time to put it on the lift that to do anything else.

I of course do leave on the full mount and ball so if any idiot come up on me texting and hit my rear end they get a nice big hole in their bumper or radiator instead of crushing my spare into the rear tailgate.
