Do you have a factory mounted light in the centre of headliner?
I would like to see what one looks like and was it a push button also?

Brian Yup..it would be nice to have more light inside.
I've never seen one, but I bet a member has one, possibly in later year LTD models?

Do you have one of these HJ?
I see two switches, one per side, a close up photo would be great there HJ. Is this one push button or toggle for this light?

I have an extra... Each one has a push button built into the lens.

Thanks Mark. Interesting, it appears to be identical to the one in the rear or cargo area.

I wonder how you would route wires to it though?
Maybe a cable snake?
That would be easiest.
Cut hole for light in headliner, remove rear light, have new wiring ready inside of plastic wire loom tubing, with coat hanger attached, feed to rear voila!

That way works good
adding a mid light really helps light up that area above the rear seat

That sounds like a plan.
Just pig tail it off the rear light.

I take it the headliner is some sort of composite wood material that can be easily cut through?

I wonder if there is a harness already under the headliner somewhere, or maybe off the rear or front light? Splicing in rear works though to maintain the theater dimming.
Next question is how does it clip into the headliner once the hole is cut..hmmm..

Sounds like one must test cut the hole in cardboard first to make it fit perfectly. Snug is probably better then.

from the FSM
looks like there are some metal clips.

CARGO LAMP UNIT
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(2) Using a trim stick or another suitable wide
flat-bladed tool, gently pry between the flange
around the edge of the cargo lamp housing and the
headliner to release the metal snap clip on each side
of the housing from the rear roof header (Fig. 7).
(3) Pull the cargo lamp away from the headliner
far enough to access and disconnect the rear body
wire harness connector.
(4) Remove the cargo lamp from the mounting hole
in the headliner.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position the cargo lamp to the mounting hole
in the headliner.
(2) Reconnect the rear body wire harness connector.
(3) With the finger depression in the cargo lamp
lens oriented towards the rear of the vehicle, position
the cargo lamp housing into the headliner mounting
hole and align the metal snap clip on each side of the
housing with the rear roof header (Fig. 7).
(4) Press upward firmly and evenly on both ends
of the cargo lamp until both snap clips are fully
engaged.
(5) Reconnect the battery negative cable.

Tim,
Would you have time to pry your dome light for a peak to see what is the deal with the metal clip? I tried googling but didn't find anything significant. Wifey has the libby for the weekend. Thanks

This picture was from theebay listing. i suspect the clips refers two those two vertical metal clips.
also, i noticed it requires a connector. depending on what is need, could use spade connectors as a jerry rig.
