Engine Heater

I was looking at getting a engine heater but I did not want to risk putting one in a freeze out plug because when the truck pressurizes there is the chance that the plug could come out and I would lose all my coolant. so I was looking at getting a lower radiator hose engine heater New Lower Radiator Hose Heater for Case International 600 Watt 1 3 4" | eBay. I have the 3.7 engine in my liberty. I was wondering if anybody had any experiance with this type of heater or any engine heater that is not put in place of a freeze out plug.

The problem with inline hose heaters is that often they can damage the hoses them self though overheating and expansion/hoses leading to leaks/damage.
Plus your adding unnecessary clamps. The best place is where OEM Jeep heater is installed through the frost plug. And OEM is 1250 Watts.
The frost plug is completely removed when installing the Jeep Block heater. It does not leak.

Installed my freeze plug heater back in 09 no problems yet.

buy the factory mopar heater and be done.

you done a coolant flush yet since new? now would be a good time if you haven't.

Well actually I put in new coolant last year. The main reason why I do not want to go with the Mopar one that goes in the freeze out plug is because I do not want a leak and also I want install it myself.

what type of coolant did you use when you replaced the coolant last year? if you are going to do a block heater, get the mopar one and be done, it isn't expensive and it is an actual block heater...you'll learn this lesson here either by listening to the people on here or through trial and error: do it right; do it once, (aka buy once; cry once).

Another vote for the block heater (ours has been in since late '08 with no leaks).
