We are on the way to the dealership to drop off our 02 to get a new heater core installed. I hope it will have heat when we get it back.

So it's not today... It was yesterday but technically I'm not done yet.. I dropped the ****** pan on the 545rfe to replace the filters. Jeep threw a code that pointed to bad filters, possible drain back issues. But since it appears the trans hasn't been serviced at all I decided to do that first. By the time I get home from work the rtv would have set for 24hrs so I'll fill her up and see if it throws another code. Lets hope not.

How in the world did you tear up the CVs test driving it?
Where did you get the new ones from?

If your bearings are giving off a strange smell then you have a real issue
Are they or is it whichever one you think is smelling, is it hot to the touch ( well just with your hand close by?)

I know its coming from the front driver side and since i just got done driving im gettin heat from the rotor as well. I do have to replace my rear brakes and caliper hardware but no smell is from back there. Ill get my hand as close to the hub as possible.

On another note what type of bolt is holding the hub on to the knuckle? It looks sorta like a torx bit

Awesome now the e-fan wants to stop working:emotions122::emotions122::emotions122:

EDIT: does the thermostatic fan control switch sound about right for causing this problem?

Dang man, did you take the KJ on a hell-bender offroad trip or what? :laughing1:

The problem could be the fan itself - run a couple of leads directly to it from the battery and see if the fan runs (it'll run on Hi using this method.) If it does then it could be the relay - but I'll let the electrical experts jump in here.

BTW, the E-Torx bit is a 14mm. Luke is correct so 5 bonus points for him :waytogo:

New heater core installed by the dealership, ended up being 200 dollars cheaper than the estimate from last year. Has hot heat now.
Also put new front brakes and rotors on it when we got it home. I checked the rear brakes and they still look fine for being 12 years old and 100,000 miles.

Well I haven't gone in over a month, the fan spins freely on it's own but when the motor is running and I hit the gas it looks like its trying to turn but its stuck. The mechanical fan is running like crazy, it sounds like I'm driving a big rig.

My Libby has been resting this week at the airport while I travel on business. I'll be driving it home tomorrow afternoon. Yay! :)

Just for fun, a couple images from Chi-town...
