If you can't afford the damage don't abuse the Jeep. Since you know nothing and clearly haven't the slightest clue how to research either, take it to a reputable mechanic or the stealership.

i agree with what others are posting it sounds like a power sterring pump went bad. I went through 2 power steering pumps in my 06 raider (mitsubishi and dodge got together on it. it had a mopar 3.7 and a 6 speed manual tran) I loved it. wish i still had it but anyways. it wasnt leaking any fluid but it was doing the same thing your talking about. if i was off the gas it was tough to turn. on the gas it would turn ok. it would also wine really bad. Luckily it was covered under waruntee.

You'll know when the power steering pump is gone. You'll feel like you literally have to muscle the steering wheel around on all turns. Fortunately, you 'can' drive without the PS pump being operational... it's just not as comfortable.

With correct tools, pump was easy to fix on mine. Not sure if they are different between years, however.

$140 from moparpartsamerica.com,and that is a OEM pump.Same or less then those junk ones bought at autozone or advance auto.Just need a power steering pump pulley puller/installer($20 at autozone) to swap the pulley. If you don't have HD cooling it should take about 30mins to swap over.Oh and you will need a new o-ring for the pressure line,it's a special non-rubber o-ring,can not re-use the old one.

Are the napa power steering pumps any good? Since installing a new set of pressure hoses mine has been whining.

Been wondering about the pulley. So the puller from auto zone is good?

Can you buy just the oring?

From years of experiance any remaned pump is worthless, regardless of you remaned it.The KJ only has 1 pressure hose and if you have the cooler you will have 2 return lines otherwise you just have 1 return line.Pump whine can be very common to remaned pumps and may or may not ever go away, and bad return lines with pinholes that don't leak outward but suck in air since the return line(s) are under a slight vacuum are another common source of pump whine.

Power steering pump pulley pullers/installers are pretty much all the same. The kit that is $20 works just like the $60 set.

maybe a CV axle...or could have knocked something out of alignment. Check your CV boots for tears, but if everything is rusted up, pretty good indication that it could be your problem. Having issues turning in 2wd, 4wd or both?
