New to the forum and was having issue with search function...

Wife has a 2005 Jeep Liberty 2wd with auto transmission.

When driving normal everyonce in awhile it feels like the transmission makes a slight jerk almost like its kicking down a gear but resumes back to normal operation. It is very quick but noticeable. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting...

Thanks for any help.

around 45 to 50 mph the liberty likes to lock and unlock the torque converter. Its anoying, but normal. Is that what you're talking about. it may go from 1500 rpm to 2100 or so.

I guess for us it has never done it before and has started to be noticeable over the past 2 months...

Mine does it EVERY time it goes into OD. Pay attention to your gearing. I'm in first, hit second, hit third, then :shimmy and shake: and I'm in OD. I honestly think I have a torque converter issue, cause when I romp on the gas from fourth, it has a hard time downshifting as well. (The issue is called a torque converter shutter). The higher RPMs, the harder it will kick (SOMETIMES. Not every time). For instance, I get an audible clunk sometimes.

Anyway...look into your torque converter. Rockymountain, how long has yours been doing this? Cause I feel like mine's not very normal. Especially since it only happens when the transmission is at a decent temperature. Not to mention mine did NOT always do that :\

Every KJ with the 42rle does what I described. You mentioned a shutter. Yeah then you have a torque converter problem. What I described is normal.

What was different about what I described from the norm? (I don't wanna get this thing back from the shop only to find out that it's still shuddering, but that it's normal).

Nevermind. I guess the "once in a while" takes it. Thanks though :D

slight miss???

If i had to be more descriptive if you are at normal driving range between say 55 - 70.

Just out of the blue a slight almost "miss" will occur. Very quick when it does it. Its not violent. You can feel it though. Its not from the engine. Car just keeps driving fine.

I try to research before taking anything to a shop and 90 percent of stuff i can do myself.

I can put a new converter / ****** in but rumor has it dealership will have to program it? Anything to that???

Thanks for any help or info...

I'm actually going to have to agree that your problem is much more normal than mine. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mine does it between shifts of 3rd and OD every time when the transmission is heated up. That's a torque converter shutter.
