Can the stock external transmission fluid cooler be removed from the radiator?

I am wondering if it can, then Ryan and I could move it up in front of the radiator so it gets better air flow, because where it is now at the bottom of the rad it hardly gets any air going through it at low speeds. It also doesn't help that there is a winch in front of the grill/rad.

Thanks
Jen

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
The stand alone trans cooler that the 42RLE's get mounts via the lower 2 condensor mounting bolts. You can move it up using other methods to secure but you also will need to modify the trans cooler lines as they are hard lines that come around the side of the radiator and hook into the cooler.

There's another option that I'm going to do on my '03...

I had to replace the rad and the model I got can be used in '02 Libby's - which means it has the in-rad transmission cooler. I'm going to run the trans lines into the rad cooler first, out to the standalone ****** cooler in front of the rad then out of the standalone back to the ******. Troy mentioned in another thread regarding this that this method helps keep the trans fluid at a steady temp thanks to the rad cooler but you also get the benefit of the cooler in front of the rad. And since you and Ryan get some COLD temps having the rad heat up the trans fluid will get the trans up to temp sooner and will help with those cold January mornings.

May be worth a try!

Yes, I recall reading that, but I don't think Jennifer has.
The rad in our Heep is still in excellent working condition
So I'm just trying to do this on the cheap!
I'll have to look and see what's involved to gain access
to the ****** cooler.

I'm to lazy right now to read through the FSM! I'll do that
a little later tonight.

I have enough Aeroquip braided lines and "Dash" size fittings
is all sizes to make up some hoses to relocate the cooler...
I have a feeling the rad will have to come out anyway to
remove the cooler, if so I too will just then cough up the
money and replace it with an '02 model at fit a viscous van
while I'm at it.

But thanks for mentioning it non the less twobob's.
