i was doing a little looking around which turned in to a research project. lol

does anyone have 33" tires?

if so, what have you done?

i know ill need 3" lift to fit 31" tires, so would i just need to mod the boddy/wheel well and use spacers to push the wheels out a little to fit 33" tires?

or if you know where some info on this is can you stear me in the right direction.

32's work after pounding the pinch welds down and trimming back the plastic splash guards in the the wheel wells...

Only know of one person running 33's on his KJ and that's only after cutting into sheet metal to make more space.

Some will argue ( of course :whip:) but 33s are not worth what you have to cut, bend, break etc to fit. PLUS you'll have to regear or never use overdrive

really? over drive is out? how come? if its re geared then why wouldnt overdrive work? and if 33" need re geared then wouldnt any tires that were bigger than stock? so would 32"s be the best bet? its just that there are alot of trails but the guides say 33s w/ a locker are a must for most.

What he's saying is that IF you got 33's and didn't regear, you would have to lock out overdrive... otherwise you would have little to no power due to the size of the tires.

Have you wheeled your KJ much yet? They are far more capable than given credit for. I've done quite a few things that was only recommended for those sporting lockers/bigger tires. I certainly can't do everything, but nothing beats getting out and testing the terrain... and then deciding what you need to have. ;)

I have done dozens of trails where the guide books states the min requirements being 33's and a locker (most intermediate trails). I have 31's and am open/open. I ran a few of the "********" trails in Moab and did just fine. As long as you don't go alone, pick the right line, and take it easy on the throttle, you can get a built Libby down most moderate trails.

I would stick with 31's or 32's. No way I would want to deal with all the hassles of trying to stuff some 33's under a KJ. Not worth it IMO.

Should regear with 32s as well! When I first threw my 32s on I was ready to take them off in the first 200 miles due to it always shifting etc if i did not keep the OD off, after regearing its like driving it with stock tires almost
245-75s is a good safe bet as mentioned above

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Besides the insane amount of cutting required to run 33" tires and still actually wheel it then you must regear to at least 4.56 gears, which means the steel D30 from JBA must be bought to gear that low.4.10's is the lowest the D30A has,and no regular D30 gears will not work.To make 32" tires work alot of trimming is needed and dang near 4" of lift(personal experiance),then your run on the extreme borderline of keeping the IFS alive, and yes 4.10's are required for 32" tires and not really low enough depending on where you live.

Or..................

Man up and SFA the KJ with some full widths and run 35" tires:smokin:.

just south of doucheville
enough said about tires and gears
just FYI
learn to drive
I run 32's on my TJ ,with LOTS of other mods
there is not 1 local trail that I have not run
and only a hand full within 500 miles of home that I simply will not
proper gears and lockers as well as proper suspension and skid plates will go a long way
oh and not 1 skid plate on my TJ is stock and I added some that were not even an option

I actually did run 285/75-16 tires (32.8") on mine for a while. I am maxed out on lift without an SFA conversion, and I am only 2WD, so I don't have to worry about front CV angles. I still have the stock 3.73 gears. It KILLED my gas mileage running those monster tires. Power loss was huge. Overdrive was gone. 4.56 would have pulled them just fine though. Just depends on how much $ you want to sink into it to get that extra inch.
