Just curious how many actually have a mobile 120 volt inverters mounted in their Jeeps? What do you plug in?
I just bought a 300 watt to install for charging Notebook & Camera batteries, while mobile etc. I am wondering if I should return this one and get the 1000 watt unit or is 300 enough? Just the size of the 1000 is much larger.
By the way, both this inverter and my 600amp battery booster inverter would not handle the home coffee maker. :whip:

What do you want to run? you can get 1000w one but just remember you can kill your bat fast with them.If you want to just charger cell phone ,ect 300w will do it but no coffee pot or small toaster over.Just get a small generator if its for camping

Wouldn't it depend on what you wanted to plug in?

1,000 watts seems like a lot? You could run 10 - 100 watt bulbs. You can get coffee at any 7-11 and you wouldn't kill your battery?

Just some thoughts.

I run 1 in my work truck
it is a Vector 750/1500 (cont./peak)
I easily run a drill ,4 1/2" grinder, even a 1/2" impact
if you do the math 750W / 120V = 6.25A
the smaller one I have for my lap top is a 400/800 and in the cig. lighter will not even charger my Makita LXT batteries ,shuts down for lack of power
so you will need to go direct to the battery for good power

cig. lighter is good for 20A @ 12V so only 2A @ 120V or about 240W

Thanks to all, Good replies, and great info!
When it comes to large draw requirements, the vehicle would be running to protect battery.
The nice thing about the 300 is that it connects to battery with provided alligators, and lighter socket adapter. The larger 1000w requires direct connection to battery.
The minute I hear power tools, I like that idea a lot. A generator in not in my plans for camping, too much noise, weight etc.
I am going to have to sleep overnight on this one and decide if the 1000w is best.
I found this Average power consumption table/guide: 1/2inch drill 750watts.

I have a 700W installed in the front passenger side outer panel. I use it for all kinds of stuff like my mini shop vac, soldering iron, trouble light, and charging the laptops and drill batteries... so far

I have a 400W (400 constant, 800 peak) installed. Works fine for charging my cell phone and computer at the same time so I'd say that 300W is more than enough. Or cell phone/iPod...

BjBnet, got a photo of your's mounted?
I am hearing lots above my 300watt.
Just tested 1/4 B&D drill, one minute full speed, very good! (250watt aprox)
Small ceramic heater..no problem..
& just for fun plugged in the battery charger both at 2 & 4 amp no problem is recovering, ha ha..
It even just powered my Pro Weller's 260watt soldering gun. Maybe this thing is ok.

Even a small, 6-cup coffee maker can pull 700W. That's a pure, resistive load at 100% duty cycle. I've had no trouble with a 60W (70W peak) inverter for running laptops and other electronic devices.

the second post on the 4th page... that's where I installed mine and it doesn't get in the way on the passenger's feet. If anyone ever complains about it, being a Canehdian and all, I'll kindly ask them to walk.

Ya ask em to walk! :happy175:
I think I am going to keep the 300watt as portable between a few vehicles.
The cig (acc) attachment will only handle about 125 watts, so that is fine for small electronics charging.
For a permanent mount, I am thinking the 1000 would be best for KJ.
Does anyone know if there is non controlled BCM hotwire that can be tapped into at fuse area?
I guess the best method is to run wires right from the battery with fused positive though. How you get wire though firewall?

So I've been reading a lot of these inverter threads and it seems to me that 99% of kj owners (and kk as well, probably) want the inverter for the exact same thing so I'm thinking someone should just invent a mobile one. I'm not very mechanically inclined but I think that I am going to be the person who invents an in car coffee maker. You can pretend that you're going to use drills and compressors and other manly things, but in the end I know the everyone just wants coffee. Maybe I can find a way for the heat of the engine to boil the water..... :party52: (that's a latte, not a beer)

where do you get 125W for the acc. in the KJ?
I thought they were rated for 20A @ 12V?

Why bother with 115 volt?
Just get one of these!
