hey guys, looking for a little info. 2 weeks ago i had the the lift installed ome med. springs and bilstein shocks all around. the lift rides awsome much better than stock. i also put new tires on it so they were balanced, and a allignment too. But when i hit 55 mph. the steering wheel shakes back and forth. i dont have any outher lift like a spacer, clevis, top plate ect. but i do have the stock upper control arms. im just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? or if any one has any suggestions of what is causing this. im lookin into the jba uca but dont want to spend the 400 bones if i dont have too....
thankx guys

I fixed mine just this weekend... yours may be different.

Mine was this: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48074&highlight=intermediate+shaft

which is caused by this:http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48083&highlight=intermediate+shaft

and was fixed with this:http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44892&highlight=intermediate+shaft

I installed a Med duty OME lift Feb '10.
In Oct '10 I had a shop replace the intermediate shaft and CV axle at a $600 cost.
I had the same problem this spring and replaced the 2 parts myself for a little less than $200 (I think the shop screwed me).
I put a waterproof, marine grease on both the male and female splines during re-assembly (this was between the intermediate shaft and CV joint only the other splines are lubed via the juice in your diff).

You can easily check for this. Grab on to your passenger side inner CV joint and wiggle it up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right.
Healthy parts should have very little play in any direction.

I also had steering twitch over bumpy roads, but in my case it was more about the clevis and extra lift caused with top plate and not the best alignment. I did end up installing the 4.5 a-arms which is way more stable, but still have a slight twitch only over the worst pot holes now. I am also going to check the intermediate shaft on my rig and see if it is tight.
Thanks for video Corey.
Justin did you get a print out from your alignment? How was it ..all within spec?

well i grabbed the cv and there was a tiny bit of play if i realy pulled on it ,it would make a little metal to metal noise. but it wasent wobbleing. the steering wheel seems to shake back and forth at 55 and above on smooth roads almost like the tires arnt balanced. and on sharp turns, like turning into the drive way fast i heard a pop noise today and yesterday. i did not get a print out on the allignment the guy just told me "well she drives strieght now" :pp: , i was thinking it could be the stock a arms but every one seems to say with the basic ome lift the stockers are fine. also when goin at
highway speeds the shakeing in the wheel gets worse when i let off the gas. i dont have any wierd noises when goin down the highway, just my break pad on the passenger side started to cherp after i got it back from the shop:shrug:

could be a number of things
all stated +
bad tire ,try rotating them front to back
uneven torque on a wheel ,take them off and retorque may be cured by rotating
bad alignment

I had the same lift on my KJ for 40K miles
ran MTR's for 35K+ of that
had 1 alignment and had the same problem at about 30K on lift
found a bad tire ,broken belt
prorated warranty from good year cost me $100 +/-

Fader,

Can you take videos with your cell phone? If so i could tell you if the play you see is similar to what mine was.

the tires are bran new falkin rocky mountain 245 65 17s from disscount tire direct so i hope its not a broken belt dont have a warrenty. ill try rotating them tho. one of the rotors is a little warped i feel a pulse when i get on the breaks just dident think that it would make it shake like that. befor i put in the ome lift i had stock suspention with a rro utt strut spacer lift that was terrorable i dident dare take it up to 55 because of the banging over the smallet bump maby i could have broke a belt because of the hard ride? ill try to take a video with digial camera for the cv but might take me a witle to post , never did it befor. ill put in 4 wheel to see if there is any noise too. thankx for the info everyone:icon_lol:

Any reply's re my situation add in my thread to keep it separate...
Are the stock parts that cheap? 38,000 miles on my rig, only 1000 miles since lifted.
