Curious why so much crud accumulates on the black plastic, just behind the rear door seals. I think there was something about to grow in there Wow1.gif
I think a paint scraper was in order after the wash today, just on that black rounded moulding. Is everyone experiencing this or are my door seals a POS?
Still cant figure out how it gets in there, as the road debris should be held back by the rear fenders and seals??.
It is like the door seals are working, but that plastic is the magnet.
Is the rear doors some how an air intake?

I hear ya. The fender flare part that is attached to the rear door gets a stink load of dirt packed into it. On the inside there's a wee void, from the lip of the fender flare to the actual door structure. I'm pretty sure that the rear tires are responsible for a lot of it, flinging dirt and stuff in there like that.

It gets washed at least once every two weeks during the winter when I can have the Jeep indoors for a few hours. I'll take pics of the dirt accumulation next time out.

its how the air flows around the Jeep is why all the crap collects there on the back.. every time you run over a puddle of water.. the spray gets caught in the turbulence behind the Jeep, sticks to the body, that water dries along with whatever else was there.. and it just builds up.

try taking a piece of cardboard or a credit card or something and run it through the smoke of a cigarette (or whatever you can make a smooth trail of smoke with) and slowly pass the card verticle through it and notice the turbulence on the back end..

same concept as the Jeep

Same here.

Maybe wash KJ better and more often?

x2....I understand a lot of folks can't dedicate 2 hours per week to wash/ interior detail their KJ...but at least open the door and wipe it down. Coat of a wax would be beneficial as well.

I guess I will have to pay more attention to this area after every wash. I am going to have to use some Armorall on the plastic and get some compressed air into and around the seals to get all of the small road chunks out, it was nasty and really packed in there.
May cover that area with a sticker "Test Dirt"
