NO... but only because I read my manual ... sorry couldn't resist :D

Seriously though, read up on your 4WD system ... before you don't have one any more!

Hmmmm...I am trying to think of a non-newb response. We had a light dusting and some ice. So I did drive it like a mile on normal pavement.

So.........

I did some research...crow hop.....

So can I get a little explanantion of when to use my 4WD. I knwo it sounds stupid, but I was always under the assumption that you could use 4HI in bad weather like snow, ice, heavy rain, etc....and the 4LO was for severe offroad conditions.

Try it in 2 wheel drive. Could the noise be the power steering pump whine? Be aware and stop before going full lock when the pump starts whining.
How many miles on your Liberty? Have you inspected boots and half shafts for condition?

You should be avoiding going lock to lock on your steering when in 4wd, puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain. And i assume what your experiencing is normal because of the binding everything is taking when turned all the way over to lock.

Not stupid just in a hurry, search this is answered every time it rains, snows.
Heavy enough rain to need 4x4 came in Moses time not since, snow is realitive, deep, new, maybe, hit and miss,no.4x4 does not make up for lack of skills, just as full auto doesn't make a deadeye.

Why is it that if the road appears to be wet everyone wants to throw it in 4 Wheel Drive?

I am the other way, I go as far and as long as I can without locking it in, then when I really need it I have it.

Good tires, common sense and driving skills gets you a lot farther at times than pulling that lever and ruining a transfer case!

I never use four wheel drive on a paved road.
When it's snowing I just use rear wheel drive as well!
But I guess that's because I know how to drive!

The only time I use four wheel drive is when the rear
wheel drive just doesn't have any more traction.
Then it's 4 hi and when the going gets really tuff, it's
4 low.

I'm sure all that will change when I get my rear locker!
