I need a new front driveshaft for my 2005 KJ Limited, but I live outside the USA and so I'm at the mercy of the sole importer of Mopar spares here. They're quoting me the equivalent of $571 for the shaft.

Even allowing for international shipping costs it looks like it would be cheaper to buy the part from a US-based online supplier. I've found this one for $369, but it does say "Manual Transmission" and I have an auto. Is there really a difference between the driveshafts used on manuals and autos or are they interchangeable?

If I need a specific auto driveshaft, can anyone point me to a good supplier? It needs to be a flat cost, no remanufactured shafts with core charges - shipping the old shaft back to them would blow the economics of the deal given that I'm not US-based.

Anything that keeps me out of the clutches of the local Mopar-importing gougers would be appreciated...

Not an option I'm afraid, guys - there's nobody around here who will do stuff like that. It has to be an off-the-shelf replacement part.

Tom Woods.

Wot he said:D I live in England, and although I haven't needed a driveshaft yet, just after I bought the KJ I thought I'd check around for such things - to be prepared so to speak! I found Tom Woods ad in 4WD and Sport Utility. He will ship(or at least he would 3 years ago).

Oh and check carefully which driveshaft you need - if you have a CRD the front shafts are not the same length.

I had the same problem afew months ago, bought it new from a UK jeep dearership called horsham-car-centre. Found them on e-bay. They ship internationaly and accept paypal.

If I remember correct the cost was 280€ for the shaft and 40€ for shipping it to Greece.

I have a contact person there, PM me for details.
