What is the asking price? I think as far as maintenance, as long as it's been well kept, you should be set for many miles. Make sure the ball joint recalls have been performed though.

As far as the basket, maybe a junk yard. Some members here sell theirs too, so keep looking in the for sale section as well... :)

Welcome Jason...

130k isn't bad on one of these, after seeing posts on here a while back where there was a mileage poll thats nothing for these motors if properly maintained. Sure you might have some minor things go, sensors and crap like that, but thats normal for any vehicle new or old.

Biggest thing i would be concerned about is how well was it treated, regular oil changes, transmission services, etc...

Otherwise, without a price to go on, which i see HJ asked about as well, its hard to say how good of a deal it is.

I would have to say yes
we just sold our '03 with 70K on it and the list of minor problems was long
when you consider that my '02 TJ that gets beat off road ,has been beaten for the past 20K and it has 50K now, has less in minor issues
the short list of what was wrong
bad UBJ on the driver side ,not gone but on the way
front drive shaft ,not gone but loose
power steering whine
AC compressor whine
batteries not living longer than maybe 30 months ,good thing for 36 month free replacement

I figure that by the time I fix the DS
the power steering
the AC
the UBJ
something else will be failing and I would be out close to $2K
top that with the fact that my wife is driving 300-500 miles PER WEEK
and the KJ gets 17 average
yeah we sold it

Power steering pump nose on a DC vehicle is like oil leaks on a Harley, they all have it. From my mother-in-laws Caravan, to my wife's PT Cruiser, to my KJ, they all have that distinctive DC PS Pump whine... And in the winter they howl nice for a few minutes after starting. I'm used to it...

AC Compressor whine is normally the clutch and bearing, it can be rebuilt without having to evacuate and recharge the system but its a pain nonetheless.

The upper and lower balljoints, wear items, can't blame anything there, though they have had a reputation for bad parts, but in the end DC didn't make the parts they got them from a supplier so who is to blame there?

However... All that said your mileage argument is valid. I didn't buy my KJ for the mileage, i bought it for the capability of having a 4wd SUV in the driveway. I have the wife's car if i'm worried about mileage.

No PS pump whine here, not ever in the last 8 years, from -35 degrees to 110 degrees outside.

Like you stated A/C clutches, ball joints, and all that minor stuff are wear items that need replacement after certain mileages due to wear.If the title is clean and it has a good documented maintenance schedule it should be fine but expect to replace wear items sooner then later due to the mileage.

Off track kinda,P/S whine can be ridded by flushing/bleeding system. Back to subject,130,000m does not scare me,you will have some wear items go to age/mileage.

Yup, as long as you've got a long maintenance history, do it.

Otherwise, if there's no service history...nah. Too much can potentially be already FUBAR when you buy it.

Unless it's super cheap. If it's super cheap, then get it, blow up the engine.

Alternatively, you could buy a 1994 Toyota Paseo :D

In the salt belt, the KJ was recalled for upper balljoints
Everywhere the KJ was recalled for lower balljoints.

6 grand you can get a pretty nice 02-3 KJ Sport with less miles, at least here in Ohio.

*EDIT*
Ignore that last part. Who wants to buy an '02 KJ Sport with 147k miles for $10,500(rotflmao)(rotflmao)(rotflmao)(rotflmao)

Can't believe how much these little bastards still fetch! Paid 10,5 for this thing in 2005 with 50,228 on it!

I flushed the power steering on the PT twice, and my mother in law had the PS flushed on her van twice under warranty, they still whine... So does my KJ a bit when its cold, usually just for a half minute or so as it warms up. I've tried different brands of fluid after flushes in the PT, one change helped but the noise came back after a month. I was going to replace the pump but its not annoying enough to me to be a problem, and it only does it below freezing, the rest of the year not a peep from it.

03' with 45k on it when i bought it for $6k here, it was a repairable, was in a light front collision but no airbag deployment and basically cosmetic damage, but it got written off and bought from the insurance company by the shop that towed it and did the estimate, he saw the potential in it.

You could possibly be looking at an ignition switch which means new steering column. But I'm not bitter or anything.
